Position Summary: This is a caseworker position that provides supervision services to the Court for adult criminal defendants.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor defendants while out on bail to ensure adherence to their bail conditions. This includes scheduling and providing supervision at the level indicated by the Court.
  • Draft accurate and complete written reports to the court to include up-dated progress as well as non-compliance reports.
  • Work as a team, sharing all aspects of caseload responsibilities, to include but not limited to: conducting intakes, writing court letters, obtaining essential court case information, ongoing CCAP checks, treatment referrals/updates, meeting with participants, and staffing cases.
  • Conduct and record random drug testing on participants.
  • Maintain accurate participant records to include detailed documentation of all contacts with participants, referrals made and all pertinent information related to all pending cases, including the collection of program fees.
  • Assist with drug testing coverage in the Waukesha Court Service Programs as required, specifically willing to adjust work schedule to cover program needs.
  • Assist with managing the lobby when coverage is needed.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain flexible schedule to provide coverage in the office when necessary.
  • Other job-related duties may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
  • Appear in court and on the record as necessary.

Minimal Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work or other related field; possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and insured auto; must pass criminal background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the Wisconsin Criminal Justice System; knowledge of local treatment programs to include AODA, mental health, and domestic violence; knowledge of community resources to include housing, education, public transportation; knowledge of the Circuit Court Access Program (CCAP); Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations; sensitivity toward cultural, ethnic and disability issues; good organizational, computer and typing skills; ability to read and understand drug testing results; good judgment; effective use of time, be trained in the all WCS required Evidence Based Principals within 90 days of hire and follow models for fidelity established by the agency.

Physical Demands: Duties require good hearing and the ability to communicate verbally; hand and finger dexterity for data entry and typing; involves some driving between Waukesha and Milwaukee County.

Work Relationship and Scope: Reports directly to the Program Supervisor and Program Director. Has contact with a wide variety of individuals including criminal defendants, courthouse personnel, treatment providers, various criminal justice agencies and other WCS staff.

Working Conditions: Most of the work will be done in the office, requires occasional trips to the courthouse to drop off court letters, gather pertinent casework information and provide a presence in court; required to meet with participants at our Milwaukee office; observe and supervise drug screens.
