Summary

We are seeking a talented individual for a Clinical Coding Specialist who will be responsible for abstracting HIPAA compliant code sets and make recommendations based on coding principals applicable to Medicaid policies and procedures.

This is a technical/professional position which requires a general understanding of health records content to apply uniformed and accepted payment methodologies and fee schedules relating to professional coding. The work involves use of the following codes, applications, and processes: ICD-9 and ICD-10, CPT, HCPCs, Dental Codes, APC, APR-DRG, and other code and fee systems; current coding guidelines and regulations; health information review and code assignment process, expertise in reimbursement, claims handling, and denial and appeals process.

Your role in our mission

  • Utilizes technical coding principals and reimbursement expertise to assign appropriate HIPAA compliant code sets
  • Assigns codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to the appropriate classification system
  • Recommends, tests, and implements process improvements, new audit concepts, and technology improvements that will enhance production, quality, and client satisfaction
  • Actively cross-trains to perform reviews of multiple claim types to provide a flexible workforce to meet client needs
  • Maintains current knowledge of coding guidelines and successfully completes required CEUs to maintain coding certification

What we're looking for

  • One of the following AAPC or AHIMA certifications is required: Registered Health Information Management Administrator (RHIA); Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT); Certified Coding Associate (CCA); Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P); Certified Professional Coder (CPC); Certified Professional Coder-Hospital Outpatient (CPC-H); or Certified Professional Coder-Payer (CPC-P).
  • 1-year full time certified coding specialist experience in a health care setting within the last 2 years
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working in a hospital or physician’s office as a medical coder
  • Expert knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS necessary
  • Knowledgeable in HCPCS and ICD coding, reimbursement systems, benefit coverage and restrictions, medical policy determination, and federal and state rules and regulations.

The pay range for this position is $48,000.00 - $68,600.00 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
