Job description

Operates CNC machines to fabricate parts using programs and process documents. Assembles machined parts into complete units using process prints and instructions. Ensures conformity using various gauging and measuring techniques. Complies with and follows documented processes as they relate to start-up, manufacturing techniques, quality check schedules, PM’s, clean-up, and productivity, and record-keeping.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Selects, aligns, and secures work-holding fixtures, chuck jaws, cutting tools, attachments, accessories on lathes and machining centers.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Installs machine replacement parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment, and test operation to ensure functionality and performance, as needed.
  • Sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media, as needed
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Participates in cell meetings and events.
  • Confers with engineers, Production Technician, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems, as needed.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs, including production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Other duties may be assigned. During periods of varying product demand, may be assigned to various manufacturing duties across value streams.

Job Requirements:

Critical Competencies

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, safety rules, quality instruction and process documentation, operating and maintenance instructions, technical and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous machining background required.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of calipers and micrometers
  • Familiar with geometric dimensional tolerances
