Title: Education Specialist

Division: Education/Integration Program

Classification: Part-time/ Non-Exempt

Hours: Monday-Friday

Reports to: Education/Integration Director

Position Purpose:

Teaching adult students an English as a Second Language curriculum in a diverse classroom setting to improve their English reading, writing, and speaking skills. Teaching adult students an United States Citizenship curriculum. Facilitate Cultural Orientation curriculum for our newly arrived refugee families and individuals This position also manages the overall service of childcare for students as needed for participation in our classroom.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Organizing coursework and learning materials.

• Record daily attendance.

• Instruct the following curriculum in a variety of subjects and reach students with engaging lesson plans.

• Assess and track students’ progress and customize individualized plans for students if needed.

• Work with people from various different cultures.

• Daily communication with Education/Integration Director to report concerns and student progress.

• Disinfecting workstations.

• Recruit, train, and direct volunteers to work in our Childcare program.

• Ensure that proper paperwork is signed and completed accurately by parents within understanding of our childcare guidelines.

• Assist with transportation for ELI and Cultural Orientation.

• Administer Pre and Post test for Cultural Orientation.

• Assist with various program events and activities for the Education & Integration Department (ESL, Citizenship, Cultural Orientation, Childcare).

• Provide some case management and referrals to other departments and/or needed services.

• Other duties delegated by his/her supervisor that are relevant to her position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must be able to work flexible hours. Some responsibilities may include nights and weekends to accommodate the schedules of our clients.

• High School Diploma required.

• Proficient fluency in English is required; oral, reading, and written.

• Education majors or current or retired educators preferred.

• State teaching certification, TESOL, TEFL, or ESL experience

• Positive and pro-active attitude towards work.

• Experience in childcare with children of all ages.

• Discretion, confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Must be understanding of other cultures; including the challenges our students have faced to arrive and settle in the U.S.

• Deals with staff honestly and fairly and maintains open communication.

• Plans and organizes time effectively and efficiently.
