UUV Electrical Engineer

The UUV Electrical Engineer is a first level electrical engineering role. You will be placed on a dynamic team, programing undersea systems engineering at our Newport, Rhode Island location. Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for the Autonomous Maritime Systems Test Center (AMSTC) Engineering and Technical Services contract which supports defense work on Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs). Our team upgrades, maintains and manages the hardware and software systems of multiple UUV platforms to ensure the safety of the sailors and to allow them to perform their missions successfully.


You will be part of a 22–25-member team that collaborates closely with the customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality systems. The designated program manager leads this team with over 39 years’ experience. The team has been recognized by the Navy and the industry for their outstanding contributions to the contract and program.


In this role, you will:

  • Support the development, operation, and maintenance of a variety of complex technology systems applicable to UUVs.
  • Participate in at sea and bench testing of UUV systems.
  • Design, engineer, assemble, fabricate, and integrate prototype electrical systems, sub-systems, circuitry, and associated interfacing hardware for multiple UUV platform elements.
  • Participate in the electrical integration of systems, processes, and methodologies to ensure the performance of the total system.
  • Develop or modify software supporting UUV systems and missions.
  • Prepare software requirements and test documentation.
  • Comply with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Ocean Engineering, or similar study with 0-2 years of experience.
  • A current or active DoD Secret Security clearance or have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance via sponsorship.
  • Software skills in C+, JAVA, or LINUX operating systems.
  • Effective customer and organizational level communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • 10% travel required.
