In accordance with the organizational chart and overall plan of Vance-Granville Community College, the Financial Aid/Library Resource Center Assistant at Franklin Campus reports to the Director of Financial Aid in the implementation of essential job duties related to financial aid processing and library support services. The Director of Financial Aid, in collaboration with the Dean of Corporate Learning and Professional Development, will provide primary guidance, manage the major resources the employee relies on to perform his/her work, conduct performance reviews, and provide all other direct supervision.

This position is assigned to the VGCC South Campus in Creedmoor, NC; although, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is possible. Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy, this position is eligible for up to 1 days per week of telework after the first 6 months of employment in this position.

Essential Duties

  • Assist and counsel students, both enrolled and prospective, with all phases of the financial aid application process.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written form with students, families, College faculty and staff, prospective applicants, and financial aid community.
  • Interpret and explain institutional, federal and state regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to financial aid.
  • Perform verification, as necessary, and confirm admission status for financial aid applicants.
  • Collect and analyze financial data on students to determine aid eligibility and process financial aid awards within federal, state and institutional guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation of and present information regarding financial aid, scholarships, and student employment to various campus groups, high school students, parents/guardians, orientation sessions, group discussions, workshops, and recruitment sessions.
  • Assist with Veteran student population to include counseling Veteran students and dependents, maintaining records, submitting necessary reports, and providing certification functions.
  • Manage and counsel students on loan issues including alternative loans, delinquent and defaulted loans.
  • Assist with the scholarship application process to include institutional and outside scholarships.
  • Assist in monitoring students standards of academic progress.
  • Prepare financial aid reports related to assigned area of responsibility.
  • Analyze various reports such as standards of academic progress, grades, enrollment or award status to verify compliance and eligibility of students receiving aid under federal, state and institutional guidelines; notify students of any change in award eligibility.
  • Attend workshops and training to keep abreast of changing regulations, procedures, and technology as it applies to the function of the Financial Aid Office.
  • Greet visitors/students in the library resource center and directs them to appropriate resources.
  • Organize and maintain student files.
  • Ensure students sign in and out of the Student Lab Usage Database when utilizing lab facilities.
  • Produce student lab usage reports at the end of each semester.
  • Maintain continuous lab coverage during scheduled hours.
  • Keeps library/lab organized and complete circulation duties including check-in and check-out of materials.
  • Perform clerical and/or other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid, Dean of Student Access and Support, and/or Dean of Corporate Learning and Professional Development.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:


  • Associate degree in business, education, or other related field.
  • One to two years of related work experience.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
Education and Experience Preferred:
  • Experience working with federal, state and/or institutional financial aid programs.
  • Bachelor degree in business, education, or other related field.
  • Experience working in a North Carolina Community College.
  • Experience working with Colleague, Student information systems software, by Ellucian.

Physical Demands

  • Normal office environment including sitting and/or standing for prolonged periods.
  • Duties may require intermittent light physical effort in carrying, lifting, or moving lightweight materials or equipment (up to 20 pounds)
