The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate o serve as a member of the Psychiatry team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of research experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for conducting experiments related to PTSD and heart function using the rodent SPS model. The candidate will be responsible for completing federally funded projects. The individual will work with rodents to conduct behavioral tests, molecular assays, echocardiograms, surgeries, and statistical data analysis. This position will be required to commute to Houston the initial month and sporadically thereafter for research collaboration and training purposes.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Appropriate doctoral degree. If the degree had not been conferred at the time applicant applied for a postdoc position, a letter needs to be attached from the school’s official Graduate Office and/or Registrar’s Office certifying that all requirements for the degree have been met and stating the degree conferral date.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Physiology or related discipline.
  • Behavioral research experience in rodents especially in stress-related models.
  • Cardiac physiology research experience in rodents.
  • Echocardiogram technique in rodents.
Responsibilities:
  • Research: Performs experiments detailed in federal grants: runs behavioral tests, analyzes behavioral data, conducts echocardiograms, aids with and performs surgeries, collects rodent samples, runs molecular assays, sections tissues, tracks estrous cycles, stains slides, images slides. Shadows and observes findings on rats and other subjects within the scope of PTSD behavioral test. Performs surgeries and collects samples
  • Laboratory duties: Prepares/amends/updates animal use protocols for approval. Trains and supervises of other research personnel. Performs various administrative tasks
  • Data analysis: Performs rodent behavior analysis. Performs other data analysis
  • Publish and Present Findings: Presents research findings in conferences/seminars. Publishes research findings in peer reviewed journals. Performs other duties as assigned.
