Barlow Scientific, Inc. is a fast growing Service Provider for laboratory equipment and refrigeration equipment located in Hillsborough, NC serving the Research Triangle Park area including Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, NC. Barlow Scientific serves a broad range of Laboratory Research customers including: Universities, Hospitals, Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing based customers.

Primary equipment supported includes but is not limited to Ultra-Low Temperature Freezers, Freezers, Refrigerators, Environmental Chambers, Incubators, LN2 Freezers, etc. Barlow Scientific is a warranty service provider for many manufactures including: Thermo Fisher, Panasonic, Sanyo, Norlake Scientific, New Brunswick Scientific, True and others.

Job Summary – Preventive Maintenance Technician / Refrigeration

Preventive maintenance for Laboratory Equipment. Technicians must demonstrate the ability to work independently and efficiently while performing preventative maintenance on equipment located at our customer’s facilities. Technicians will perform visual, mechanical, and electrical inspections on equipment to ensure proper operation of the equipment as required. Technicians must demonstrate excellent documentation and customer service skills, have a mechanical skill set, and be proficient in basic electrical troubleshooting.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Preventive Maintenance Technician / Refrigeration

• Perform preventive maintenance on various types of Lab equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on refrigerated lab equipment including: Refrigerators, Freezers, Environmental Chambers, Incubators, etc.
• Maintain accurate documentation of services performed for customers.

Minimum Requirements: Preventive Maintenance Technician

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent
• Must be organized and self-motivated
• Must be able to lift 50 Lbs without assistance 10% of the time
• Must be able to bend, squat, stretch, and reach on a daily basis
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products and basic PC skills
• Individual is expected to complete PM documentation as needed and should competently communicate verbally and in writing.

Preferred Experience / Knowledge: Preventive Maintenance Technician

• Experience with refrigeration systems
• Familiarity with temperature monitoring and alarm systems
• Basic electrical knowledge / troubleshooting skills
• Knowledge of Safety practices to ensure safe work (LOTO, and Electrical Safety)

Skills and Abilities: Preventive Maintenance Technician

• Proficient customer service skills
• Proficient problem-solving abilities
• Proficient mechanical skill set to maintain lab equipment

Working Conditions and Environment: Preventive Maintenance Technician

• This position will require the use of a company vehicle to travel from the home office to customer sites for service. Normally working inside airconditioned lab areas with minimal outdoor exposure. Job performance will occasionally require working near moving/mechanical parts, working around electrical equipment and other conditions reasonably expected due to the nature of the work required.
• Flexibility to work outside normal working hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for overtime as needed.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
