Exciting career opportunity for a Project Engineer I – Construction/ Entry Level to join a fast-growing company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa!


Our client is actively seeking an engineering or construction management professional with 1+ year of experience in project management, but will consider a new graduate with appropriate degree. It is an added plus if you have developed design concepts, actual designs, and proposals. Follow projects from design to completion.


Reports to Operations Manager with close working relationship with Project Managers and Field Superintendents.


Summary of possible duties:


Estimating and Sales:

  • Learn how to navigate our client’s file storage system
  • Become familiar with estimating format and estimating procedures.
  • Learn about vendors and suppliers of services we use and who to contact for specific items.
  • Attend prebid walk-through with our Project Manager or Superintendent.
  • Assist with and generate project estimates.
  • Bid take-offs from client supplied drawings and bid scope.
  • Assist with field measurements.
  • Draft bid letters from client scope and Icon approach to the project.
  • Assist Project team in maintaining quality relationships with company clients.

Operations:

  • Assist project managers in pre-job preparation for projects as assigned.
  • Become familiar with the tools of the trade.
  • Purchase supplies and materials for projects and warehouse.
  • Make necessary copies of drawings and documents for the field teams.
  • Assist with the preparation of all safety requirements for the project.
  • Generate Microsoft project schedules for the projects when required.
  • Do site visits to survey safety and production issues.
  • Arrange for delivery of materials and components to the job sites and back home.
  • Work with the project team on staffing needs.
  • Interface with field supervision and address needs.
  • Some projects require materials to be designed, drafted and sent out for bids and fabrication. Use your drafting and design skills to assist in these needs. We have AutoCAD.
  • Any other project related item that needs to be addressed for the successful completion of the project.
  • Bill your hours where possible.
  • Assist with project closeouts and invoice generation.

Safety:

  • Assist with safety training requirements and record keeping.
  • Maintain your own 30 hour OSHA card, CPR and First Aid Training.
  • Possibly act as a site safety rep if required by a particular client.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or related degree, or equivalent experience in a construction-related position
  • Prior experience in directing and coordinating the construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements, as well as inspecting
  • Knowledge of preparing specifications for the purchase of materials and equipment. Supervising and training project team members as necessary
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • The ability to travel with possible short-term relocation, as required.
  • The ability to read blueprints.
