The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least three (3) days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.
The Denver City’s Attorney’s Office seeks a senior level Assistant City Attorney for the Municipal Operations Section. Starting pay range for this position is $133,488.00 - $192,452.00.
Municipal Operations provides full service legal representation and advice to City officials, agencies and employees in the areas of general municipal law, environmental regulation and compliance, construction contracts, procurement, government contracting, tax, municipal finance, bankruptcy, real estate, land use and commercial litigation. This section offers a steady stream of clients with an incredible variety of legal needs.
The Denver City Attorney’s Office is one of the largest law firms in Colorado, with over 240 attorneys and staff members comprised of paralegals, victim advocates, and other support and supervisory staff members. It may have the most diverse practice of any law firm in Colorado since Denver is a home rule city and county. Clients include the Mayor, City Council, all other elected and appointed officials, all city agencies, departments, boards, commissions, and employees.

We currently seek an attorney with significant legal experience in government contracting, commercial contracting, municipal law, finance law, and real estate law to support a variety of agencies and large projects, including the City’s Department of Finance, Denver Economic Development Opportunity, and Community Planning and Development. The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting City agencies with negotiating agreements to accomplish their projects and advising City agencies and officials.
The responsibilities for this position include:
  • Advising and counseling City officials and agencies regarding government contracting, commercial contracting, municipal law, finance law, real estate law, and related topics;
  • Negotiating transactions and drafting contracts;
  • Drafting and interpreting City ordinances, rules and regulations, and charter requirements;
  • Conducting and/or supervising legal research;
  • Assisting attorneys working in specialized areas with research and other related activities;
  • As assigned by the City Attorney, providing City officers and employees with counsel and advice and formal legal opinions on complex matters, in specialized legal areas;
  • Providing guidance to associate and entry level attorneys; and
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested.
About You
The preferred candidates will be attorneys who have experience with the following:
  • Municipal law;
  • Contracts law;
  • Government contracting; and
  • Banking and finance law.
Preferred experience must be demonstrated on application/resume.

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence degree or Bachelor of Laws degree.
  • Three (3) years of experience as an attorney at law.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
  • License/Certifications: Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court at the time of application. By position, the applicant must have a reasonable expectation of becoming licensed by the Colorado Supreme Court within 6 months of their hire date.
    Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
