We are seeking a skilled Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in leading the kitchen at our historic guest ranch located near Big Sky, Montana. With over one hundred years of operation, our guest ranch offers an upscale yet casual experience with a focus on ranch-style cuisine. As the Sous Chef, you will assist in creating buffet-style menus, managing kitchen staff, and ensuring the quality and presentation of all dishes.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Head Chef in creating buffet-style menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that cater to the tastes and dietary needs of guests, with a focus on upscale yet casual ranch-style cuisine
• Preparing food for 70+ people each meal, roughly 45 guests and 25 crew
• Manage kitchen staff alongside the Head Chef, ensuring a positive and efficient work environment
• Maintain kitchen inventory and assist in overseeing the ordering and receiving of supplies and equipment
• Primary baker in charge of making deserts for meals, fresh breads, and keeping the cookie jars stocked at all times
• Help ensure that all dishes are prepared and presented to the highest standards of quality, taste, and appearance
• Assist in developing and maintaining food safety and sanitation standards and ensure that they are followed by all kitchen staff
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure guest satisfaction and provide exceptional service
• Be a team player and build positive relationships with guests and staff, as the position requires frequent guest interaction

Requirements:

• Excellent culinary skills with a passion for creating unique and upscale yet casual ranch-style dishes
• Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to effectively assist and support the Head Chef in managing the kitchen team
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with other departments and provide exceptional customer service
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards and regulations
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed
• Must be 21 years or older and have a valid driver’s license
• Must be a team player

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Culinary degree or certification preferred

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work in a hot and noisy environment for extended periods of time

Compensation: This is a seasonal position that starts in mid-May and goes through the end of September. We offer a competitive hourly pay depending on experience and qualifications, as well as a private housing and free meals.
