Job description

THE COMPANY

Housesmith Home Concierge aspires to make it easier for families of the South Shore of Massachusetts to enjoy their homes.

Caring for a home takes time and expertise. It’s common for a homeowner to manage a dozen or more vendors for basic upkeep. And while each of these vendors might be great at their particular trade, none of them has the time or profit motive to give the homeowner a complete picture of the status of their home. More importantly, it’s unlikely that the homeowner has a real relationship with more than a couple of those contractors—if any of them at all. There’s an opportunity to make it easier for families to enjoy their homes by allowing them to build a relationship with one company that does everything for them.

ABOUT THE VICE PRESIDENT ROLE

A lot of what makes caring for a home so challenging is a dearth of great leadership among residential services providers. And while most of the customers who would sign up for a concierge maintenance service want beautiful technology that makes their lives easier, when it comes to caring for their homes they also want a personal relationship with someone who knows them and their home, and who is steeped in the local community. As a result, we believe our business will only succeed if we hire great leaders who can build decades-long relationships with their teams, their customers, and their vendors.

As a Vice President, your job is to be our leader in the field—you will be our forwardmost line of communication with our most important customers, and the primary person responsible for managing all of our labor crews. Put more simply: you’re our senior-most leader who still uses a hammer more often than a computer. Specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Standing in for the President in his/her absence, or when the President is otherwise occupied.
  • Direct supervision of Team Leaders (Team Leaders manage 3-5 person labor crews).
  • Ensuring that the President has a good sense of how he/she can best be supporting the field team—as the Vice President, you are the President’s eyes and ears to the field crew; and as important as it is for you to supervise them, as their leader it’s just as important for you to be able to act as a voice that represents the field team.
  • Training and holding the full field team accountable for operating according to the company’s values and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Identifying high-performers and cultivating them for more senior field crew roles within the company.
  • Directly interacting with members (customers) when issues arise above the Team Leader level.
  • In the short-term acting as a project manager, and over time supervising project managers who deliver high-quality, timely renovation and project work.
  • Proactively acquiring new members and maintaining relationships with existing members—you’ll be a critical part of building the sort of relationship with our members such that “selling” to them just means that they never want to do work with anyone else.

WHY DO THIS

  • Outstanding pay and benefits, along with uncapped profit-sharing.
  • Culture that values autonomous leaders who are excited to take initiative and ownership. You’ll get lots of training, but we expect you to push back when things don’t make sense, and to proactively anticipate and solve problems.
  • You will work with, not for, a team that prioritizes employee experience and personal/professional growth
  • Ability to grow something in a community you love, but with the support and capital of a national team.
  • Spend time in the field, not behind a desk
