General Laboratory Administration (60%)

  • Record and provide oversight on supply expenditures for the affiliated laboratories within the center. Manage lab supply ordering for three labs. Clear procurement-card transactions for PIs. Process vendor payments as needed.
  • Coordinate and plan meetings, including but not limited to Internal and External Advisory Committees, and research meetings. Manage catering orders and room & space rentals. Coordinate and set up A/V as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual reports for NIH and renewal proposals, as needed.
  • Help develop informational sheets in support of research projects.
  • Manage and create content for websites and social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Manage administration of IRB protocols
  • Arrange travel as needed for either center PIs or visitors/external advisory members.
  • Communicate with project clients and schedule sample shipments/receiving for various collaborators in HHEAR.

HHEAR Lab Hub Coordinator (20%)

  • Provide primary administrative support for the Duke Lab Hub within the Human Health Exposure Analysis Resource (HHEAR)
  • Serve as a point of contact for the Duke HHEAR Center and serve on the NIH HHEAR External Communications Committee. Answer and coordinate communications between HHEAR partners and Duke Hub, including routing communications to appropriate staff within HHEAR group.

Environmental Health Program support (20%)

  • Assist with other externally-sponsored environmental health research and education programs within the Stapleton Lab, including administrative assistance for annual reports, program events and activities.
  • Assist with study participant communication.
  • Event & meeting planning.
  • Collaborate with other finance departments such as Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Billing, and Nicholas School of the Environment business office.
  • Respond to and field inquires via PFAS website.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Proficient with learning new and existing technology
  • Strong foundation in the use of spreadsheets and functions (i.e., Excel and Excel functions)
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Strong oral/written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and willing to take initiatives
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe software, Wordpress, Drupal and content design is a plus
  • Editing and proofreading skills.

Successful candidate will demonstrate high level of confidence; strong organizational skills; attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities. Superior written and verbal communication skills are foundational to the position.

Preferred Education/Training: Analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. Prefer candidates with degree or experience in an environmental or natural science field and/or public health.

Preferred Experience: One year of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires knowledge of biological laboratory exercises, techniques and procedures generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program in biology, botany, zoology or a directly related field.


Experience


Work requires 1 years of laboratory experience to OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE acquire skills necessary to develop and implement biological laboratory exercises, supervise and instruct teaching assistants, students and lab personnel and manage overall operations of the laboratory.
