Summary:

The Asphalt Raker Trainee is responsible for providing assistance to the foremen and superintendents on street jobsites. The Asphalt Raker trainee distributes asphaltic road-building materials evenly over road surfaces by raking and brushing material to correct thickness and may control screed to regulate width and depth of materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare road surfaces for hot asphalt material,
• Distribute and rake asphalt material used in construction, repair, and resurfacing,
• Finish surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt material to proper grade and thickness adhering material to road surface,
• Match and finish joints,
• Assist with equipment clean-up and maintenance,
• Learn to perform complex and physically demanding tasks that require special expertise, critical thinking and technical skills,
• Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project,
• Learn core skills through hands-on training and working on the job to gain practical experience under skilled workers, and

• May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
• Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years,
• Must be a current resident of the District of Columbia,
• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team,
• Less than one (1) years of construction experience,
• High school diploma or equivalency is desired,
• Must possess a positive attitude and work ethic,
• Ability to physically stand, bend, squat and lift up to 50 pounds,
• Must be comfortable climbing up ladders and working at elevated and/or subterranean levels,
• Must have strong verbal communication skills,
• Ability to focus on safety of self and co-workers at all times,

• COVID-19 vaccination is highly recommended,
• Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.
