ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF CAMPUS ACTIVITIES


General Description:

The Associate Director will be primarily responsible for the coordination and execution of campus-wide activities, serried event initiatives, international programming, advising student organizations, and the development of the student leader training in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Campus Activities. The Associate Director will supervise the Assistant Director of Campus Activities of Special Programming: Evening & Weekends and Assistant Director of Campus Activities. This position will develop a comprehensive menu of programs and activities based on strategic planning and assessment, available and negotiated resources, and the mission of the University and the Division of Student Affairs.


Responsibilities:

  • Advises student organizations through theory-based practices with attention given to the development of individuals, cohesiveness of group, goal creation and execution and programming
  • Serves as the primary liaison working to the academic units and administrative offices that serve student organizations in streamlining partnerships and advising to promote academic success and connect students to the institution
  • Works alongside graduate assistant staff and student organizations responsible for serried program initiatives: Live Love Learn, CA Link up, Let’s Chat and Diversify Equity & Inclusion programs.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator of student group focused service initiatives and the chair to the Service Committee
  • Hires, trains, develops, supervises, and evaluates graduate assistants
  • Oversees the management of the student organization and activities database information pertaining to organization membership, officers, events, and program participation
  • Collaborates with Campus Activities staff and external departments and student organizations to plan and program large-scale events and activities, including contract preparation, on-site decision-making, and all logistical coordination
  • Works collaboratively with University departments and partners to develop policies and procedures that meet the needs of the institution and student organizations
  • Assists in the preparation and negotiation of contracts for approval which includes working with General Counsel, VPSA, and Student Government, Inc
  • Liaison and support international programs and service initiatives
  • Maintains oversight of program budgets and provides financial and statistical reports, projections, and recommendations as needed
  • Encourages collaboration across all campuses to ensure seamless and consistent implementation of best practices in Campus Activities
  • Develops and maintain appropriate professional relationships with the University community, including faculty members, administrators, staff members, and students
  • Participates on committees through Student Government, Inc. and university-wide and division-wide committees and initiatives including New Student Orientation
  • Able and ready to provide in-person and virtual responsibility as needed
  • Assist and perform other duties as needed

Qualifications:

Master’s degree required and 3-5 years progressive administrative and advising experience required. Experience in programming large-scale events. Knowledge of student development, group development, and identity development theories. Excellent written and oral communication skills. The ability to establish working relationships faculty, staff and students required. Commitment to building an inclusive and diverse environment. Working knowledge best practices in Student Affairs and of current trends and technology in student activities, student leadership, and campus, local, state, and federal regulations. Available on some nights and weekends. Understanding of programmatic assessment and evaluation, familiarity of social media applications.


In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $60,900 - $68,000. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.


This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
