GENERAL SUMMARY:Provides clerical, receptionist and clinical support to help facilitate the provision of patient care services. Handles and protects confidential patient information and maintains the physical environment of the work area. Responsible for accurately entering patient data into the computer, maintaining patient records and record accessibility, greeting/interacting with patients, physicians, co-workers and the general public to obtain and provide information as needed.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.*Assembles and maintains organization of the patient record per department protocols; will check for record completeness upon dismissal
Collaborates with other departments to coordinate exams and treatments, minimizing fragmentation and enhancing patient satisfaction; utilizes a computer to input data and retrieve information.
Interviews parents for Birth Certificates and Fetal Death Certificates. Maintains Hearing Screening Records.
Performs additional clerical functions and related duties as appropriate to the unit assigned, including but not limited to filing, photocopying, maintaining patient logs, generating reports, maintaining unit records and miscellaneous general office duties.
Assists in the transportation of patients and/or patient records as needed.
Maintains confidential environment when communicating patient information; promptly reports priority patient information to appropriate caregiver.
Answers the telephone in a prompt and courteous manner.
Receives, greets, screens and directs patients, physicians, visitors and Medical Center personnel. Provides accurate responses in a friendly, helpful and courteous manner.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of general hospital processes and procedures.
2. Knowledge of general office procedures and standard clerical practices.
3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
4. Ability to utilize a variety of computer applications and look at the computer screen 50-80% of the time.
5. Ability to maintain confidentiality relative to sensitive information.
6. Ability to follow directions and document information accurately.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments.
8. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
9. Ability to interpret and understand medical terminology.
10. Ability to organize and maintain records and filing systems.
11. Ability to record information and/or data and compose/synthesize the information.
12. Ability to transport patients and patient-related items to other in-house facility destinations.
13. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalency required. Previous hospital experience in a clerical or technical position preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology desired.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
Nebraska Notary Public required within three (3) months of hire.
