Position Purpose
Under the direction of the Packaging Manager, the Lead Operator is responsible for the direction, output, and overall performance of the bottling line. This position provides clear direction and support to all line technicians, consistently promotes teamwork, and demonstrates strong leadership
Functional Responsibility
- Assigns daily tasks and monitors the output of the team to meet production requirements
- Leads in a constructive manner by example; demonstrates and encourages a strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
- Guides team in the proper use of assets and resources to avoid waste and ensure cost-effective operations
- Provides immediate feedback and directly assists team to maintain level of productivity and deliver daily results
- Informs the Packaging Manager of staffing needs
- Ensures employees have a safe, healthy, and rewarding work environment; provides applicable safety training and resolves/reports safety issues to management
- Supports change initiatives and company decisions in an effective manner
- Communicates closely with the Packaging Manager regarding employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
- Maintains company and regulatory compliance during day-day-operations and advises the Packaging Manager of any infractions; assigns and monitors employee breaks and lunches and provides backup relief
- Adheres to departmental SOP’s; trains employees to do the job; identifies and makes suggestions for training needs and development opportunities
Essential Duties
- Performs all duties as defined under the Packaging Manager
- Close interaction with the production team to meet packaging deadlines
- Ensures standards are met on all lines set by the Packaging Manager
- Works closely with the Packaging Manager to ensure maximum utilization of resources and clear concise communication.
- Troubleshoots and problem solves, works with the Maintenance team to identify problems that affect performance of the line
- Assesses each technician’s technical skills/knowledge and coordinate appropriate training
- Keeps immaculate records of packaging runs and materials used
- Insures that all technicians have the proper tools and operational equipment to successfully carry out their assignments
- Responsible for reporting to the Packaging Manager any faulty equipment
Non-Essential Duties
- Participates with SOP revisions and updates
- Participates in monthly safety meetings
- Assist with staffing schedule for all bottling lines across all shifts
- Other duties may be assigned
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience is required. One to two years of bottling line experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must possess demonstrated leadership skills, and have a mechanical aptitude to help troubleshoot bottling lines. Must have good written and oral communication skills, be able to present to upper Management.
Certificates and Licenses
- Forklift certification preferred
Working Conditions
High percentage of time spent on the production floor, exposed to varying levels of equipment noise and temperature fluctuation based on the seasons
Must be able to work long hours standing, bending, and lifting
