BULK CLERK JOB DESCRIPTION
Objective: Assist the Bulk Manager in running the department to meet goals for sales, margin, and labor.
Status: Full or Part time hourly position
Reports to: Bulk Manager
Responsibilities:
I. CUSTOMER SERVICE
A. Assist customers with product questions, in a prompt friendly courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
B. Offer tastes, samples, suggestions for purchase and ways to prepare product.
C. Help customers place special orders.
D. Report customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to Bulk Manager or General Manager.
E. Provide cashier support, when needed.
III. ORDERING AND RECEIVING
A. Place orders in the absence of Bulk Manager.
B. Receive freight following departmental procedures.
C. Check deliveries for damage, quality, and accuracy; record and notify Bulk Manager of discrepancies.
D. Review invoices for accuracy and submit these to the Bulk Manager for review.
E. Coordinate product returns or container deposits with suppliers.
F. Calculate prices following established pricing guidelines. Participate in periodic price comparisons with competitors.
G. Update prices and products in POS system under supervisor of the Bulk Manager.
IV. BULK DEPARTMENT STOCKING AND MAINTENANCE
A. Follow daily opening and closing procedures.
B. Fill and rotate bulk bins to maintain a full appearance.
C. Bag bulk items following priorities set by Bulk Manager.
D. Maintain bulk section, prep and storage areas in a clean, orderly condition.
E. Remove trash promptly, sweep and mop retail area floors frequently.
F. Clean and maintain department equipment. Advise Bulk Manager or General Manager of equipment repair or replacement needs.
G. Participate in quarterly inventory counts.
V. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Consistently report to work on time, starting tasks at the beginning of scheduled shift.
B. Attend department and storewide meetings.
C. Answer and route phone calls; take and route messages, as needed.
D. Perform other tasks assigned by Bulk Manager or General Manager.
E. Able to prepare value-added products under the direction of the Bulk Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience serving the public.
- Familiarity with natural food products.
- Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.
- Reliably show up for every shift.
- Accuracy, attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple demands.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Ability to project an outgoing, friendly personality.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. during receiving / rotating stock.
- Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $13.50 - $14.50 per hour
