The Continuous Improvement Program Manager reports to the Superintendent of Project Engineering. This position is located onsite in Geismar, LA and is not available for remote work.


What you will do:

  • Serve as the champion of all aspects of the site’s Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP)
  • Manage the review of Continuous Improvement ideas submitted by the site staff
  • Track CIP projects through execution and provide updates to submitters. Provide assistance to project owners where needed to keep work progressing
  • Manage the monthly competition for internal submissions for Continuous Improvement
    • Compile scores to determine winners
    • Manage prize inventory and distribute prizes
    • Generate communications to site regarding winners
  • Manage program tools and processes (process flows, submittal forms, and workplan management)
  • Participate in Quarterly Continuous Improvement Conferences and share learnings with the site
  • Participate in the site’s long-term planning and strategy developments
  • Analyze improvement idea data and trends to identify site weaknesses and opportunities
  • Act as a gatekeeper for the software tools used to organize and facilitate the CIP program
  • Manage overall CIP projects following Nutrien’s stage gated project Management Process from project scope development through to close out, working with either in-house or external employees or contractors as applicable to achieve desired results
  • Managing and controlling CIP projects to ensure objectives are met in an economical and timely manner, and applicable standards, procedures, and quality control requirements are either developed or met as required
  • Liaison between operations, maintenance, technical groups, and outside contractors/suppliers. As such, the CIP Coordinator/Project Manager must have excellent communication and analytical skills, applying an understanding and knowledge of the overall operation of the production units
  • Manage CIP Assessment, including progression of assessment criteria throughout the year and final presentation to Executive Leadership
  • Independently driven to complete ideas. A key function of this role is taking an idea, evaluating it, and making sure it gets implemented


What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management is preferred
  • Eight plus (8+) years of experience in project management at a chemical facility or a heavy industrial site
  • A PMP designation with experience in all stage gate approval process is preferred
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Projects Scheduler, enterprise software packages (Oracle/SAP), and in-house tools
  • Ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams of engineering, maintenance, operations, and construction personnel
  • Ability to prioritize and handle a large and varied workload
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to resolve business case, scoping, planning and project execution issues
  • General knowledge of chemical/industrial sites and systems, industrial buildings materials, process controls systems and documentation (P&IDs, equipment drawings, etc.)
  • Independently driven to complete ideas. A key function of this role is taking an idea, evaluating it, and making sure it gets implemented
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to interact with staff from all departments onsite and within corporate support groups
  • Ability to organize and keep track of multiple independent activities, all existing in various stages of completeness
  • Enjoys working with a diverse group of individuals with various backgrounds, skillsets, and responsibilities. This includes people from all levels of the organization, from leadership to front-line workers
