Job Title: Crisis Non-Police Responder (C-NPR)
Department: Justice Crisis & Response
FLSA Classification: Salary Exempt
Reports To: Associate Director

Position Summary
The primary goal of this position is to work in partnership with law enforcement and 911 Crisis C-NPR Specialist to respond directly to individuals experiencing a non-violent behavioral health crisis without police presence. A paired team of a crisis C-NPR and/or Certified Peer Specialist will respond to 911 and other police dispatch calls believed to be related to behavioral health crisis. Working together with law enforcement, the C-NPR will provide effective crisis intervention services including providing crisis assessment and referral services, behavioral health education and support, brief solution-focused treatment, de-escalation, mental health first aid, connecting community members with follow-up services, and transport when needed.
Responsibilities
  • Ride along with a partner to respond to 911 calls and/or community encounters with individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis.
  • Respond to calls from JCRU’s 911 Crisis Call Diversion Specialist needs when law enforcement response is not required, but a face-to-face response is warranted.
  • Always adheres to all safety protocols and follows JCRU’s procedures/guidance when responding without police presence.
  • Participate in cross training with crisis police response C-NPR, law enforcement, and other emergency personnel as required.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with law enforcement and other community stake holders.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical boundaries and prioritize access to behavioral health services.
  • Maintain client centered and community focused approach consistent with behavioral health professional’s ethics and principles.
  • Performs high quality clinical triage assessments with excellent customer service skills. Documentation is written in a proficient and professional manner. Using sound clinical judgment develops an individualized, comprehensive treatment plan to assist client in establishing necessary mental health services including provisional diagnosis and thorough suicide risk assessment.
  • NPR will complete all necessary documentation within BHR’s electronic records platform and ensures documentation is received by BHR by end of shift. NPR must be proficient in all documentation platforms and aware of account/location specific requirements regarding documentation completion.
  • Certified Peer Specialist working as a NPR should adhere to JCRUs Peer Specialist position job description.
  • Perform various other duties and functions as required or assigned within area of expertise or scope of the position.
Experience and Skill Required
  • Master’s Degree in Social services or criminal justice related field and/or certified peer/recovery specialist.
  • Preferred licensed social worker or working to obtain licensure.
  • Working knowledge of the St. Louis Area Mental Health Network, the Crisis Intervention Model, and the DSM-V.
  • Minimum of six months to two years’ experience in mental health field within the private or public sector.
  • One year of clinical experience preferred, but not required. (certified peer specialist only)
  • Committed to ongoing professional and educational development. Participates in individual and group supervision, BHR trainings, seminars, functions, and events.
  • Must work well individually and with co-workers as part of a team. Must be flexible with work hours and special requests from leadership.
  • Must own a properly insured, reliable vehicle.
  • NPRs will work with numerous agencies and will need to meet any regulatory requirements of external partners, including vaccinations and background checks as required.
  • Ability to write clinical documentation, conduct mental health assessments and develop client treatment plans.
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training-Required-can be completed upon hire
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Strong service coordination and team building skills.
  • A valid driver’s license is required as some driving and/or transportation may be required to take clients to medical appointments, job sites, social activities, and other community resources. MO Class E or state equivalent driver's license (Required).
  • Motor vehicle driving record check (Required).
