: Kentridge Senior High School

BASIC FUNCTION:
The CTE Work-based Learning Specialist assists, places, and monitors students in paid and non-paid work experiences in the community.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Works with Career Specialists and CTE teachers to help students develop skills for getting and retaining jobs
  • Coordinate and monitor cooperative education job placements
  • Maintain close contact with appropriate CTE teachers, counselors, and administrators in placing students in school to work transition experiences
  • Initiate and coordinate new training site options in the community
  • Monitor students at training sites and communicate training progress with site supervisors, parents, and school staff
  • Serve as liaison and communication link between the school district and local business community
  • May be required to teach an in-person or online course
  • Supervise students in transfer or non-traditional programs
  • Coordinate a variety of local advisory committees and work on special projects as assigned
  • Prepare and submit local and state reports as required
  • Serve as member of the career and technical education team; perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position as assigned

Licensing and Certification

Career & Technical Education certification including Work-based Learning/Career Choices endorsement (or eligibility)

Valid Washington State driver’s license


Working Conditions:

The daily activities are performed in a school setting and community workplaces. There is a high level of interaction with students. The work requires operating a personal vehicle to travel from school to work sites.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of job placement
  • Knowledge of the rules, regulations, and procedures governing student employment
  • Ability to provide career counseling and assistance to students
  • Ability to produce accurate records and reports
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn and operate a variety of software programs
  • Ability to make independent decisions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, parents, other employees, community businesspeople, and others as needed
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team effort
  • Skill in organizing and coordinating workload
