Job description
A Direct Care Worker is responsible for providing personal care and support services to individuals who require assistance with daily living tasks due to age, disability, illness, or injury. The worker is responsible for providing care that is focused on the individual's needs and preferences while promoting their independence and maintaining their dignity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
- Administer medications and assist with medical procedures as needed and directed by a healthcare professional.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to individuals, engaging them in conversation and activities that promote mental and emotional well-being.
- Assist with meal planning, preparation, and feeding, ensuring that dietary needs and preferences are met.
- Perform light housekeeping duties, including cleaning, laundry, and organizing, to maintain a safe and comfortable living environment for the individual.
- Document and report any changes in the individual's condition or behavior to healthcare professionals, family members, or designated supervisors.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of care provided, including daily logs, medication administration records, and incident reports.
- Adhere to all safety and infection control procedures, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Working Conditions: Direct Care Workers may work in a variety of settings, including private residences, group homes, assisted living facilities, or healthcare institutions. The work may involve exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and hazardous materials. The work may also require the ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the individuals being served.
