Job Description

Job Summary

The Environmental, Health and Safety & Continuous Improvement Leader (EHS&CI) is responsible for implementing and administering standardized processes to ensure compliance to federal, state, regional and local environmental, health and safety regulations, as well as, provide structure and guidance for continuous improvement in all areas with an emphasis on 6S and Lean Management. This individual will lead, in partnership with management, world class status and impact company savings through the elimination of environmental concerns, occupational injuries / illnesses, property damage, and improvement of production efficiencies through leading continuous improvement projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement an effective training program and training assessments to ensure job, health, environmental and safety required training is identified and conducted.
  • Develop, identify, and track departmental strategic goals and key measures. Provide and communicate necessary metrics for managing facility safety, environmental, and continuous improvement systems, initiate KPI’s for review and tracking.
  • Lead safety at the site to promote a culture of zero accidents by driving programs to prevent and educate employees on safety hazards and identification of potential risks.
  • Work in cross functional groups to drive elimination of risk through best practice control implementation.
  • Ensures job hazard safety analysis are performed on all equipment and processes along with reviewing all equipment for improvements.
  • Report regularly on safety topics/initiatives, key safety recommendations (by employees), safety audit findings, and other safety aspects as agreed upon with management.
  • Analyze injury / illness including ergonomics, identify / track injury correlation, determine root causes, and present elimination/mitigation recommendations to management.
  • Leads the site environmental management and compliance to ensure compliance.
  • Routinely monitors and ensures required government specific environmental training is updated and completed at the facility.
  • Supports the design, development, and implementation of cost reduction plans to improve competitiveness and operational excellence.
  • Responsible for working with the various leadership teams to plan, execute, monitor, and continuously improve objectives.
  • Guides leadership in the review and measurement of manufacturing methods, technology application, workflow processes, and application of lean/continuous improvement skills.
  • Ensures all applicable procedures are continuously updated (minimum annually), and that all audits are conducted timely, and all audit findings are evaluated, cured, implemented and appropriately trained and measured (when necessary).
  • Analyze performance data. Summarize final results vs. objectives and take actions to close gaps. Recommend corrective actions
  • Summarize the project results and identify lessons learned to ensure effectiveness and efficiency gains are realized for future projects
  • Directs efforts to reduce pollutant emissions from facilities through technologically sound and economical methods.
  • Responsible for recordkeeping and reporting requirements under permitted environmental processes.
  • In conjunction with the Human Resources Manager assists and manages Worker’s Compensation process and claims.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence and drive message on complex content, in front of peers.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of EHS related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a manufacturing environment including safety / environment related tasks.
  • BS in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, or related field desired or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO45001 and TS 16949 preferred
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulations requirements for regulatory reporting.
  • Flexibly and willingness to support 24/6 operation including routinely spending time on night shifts to conduct training or address safety issues.
  • Experience with continuous improvement programs (such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Kazen leadership).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and / or other software.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
