Position Summary:
The intraoperative neurotech uses various modalities of neuromonitoring (e.g., EEG activity, evoked potentials, and free-run and evoked EMG) to provide early warning to the surgeon and anesthesiologist concerning potential neural injury.

Responsibilities:
  • Applies electrodes accurately to optimize stimulus and recording parameters.
  • Monitors artifacts in order to eliminate recording or electrical interference.
  • Discusses procedures with patients in a professional manner in order to reduce anxiety and fear.
  • Initiates and maintains contact with the remote monitoring professional when applicable.
  • Prepares daily procedural charges and forwards them to the appropriate department for billing.
  • Maintains patient files (computer and hard copy).
  • Performs troubleshooting on equipment used in the department.
  • Performs equipment maintenance, calibrating, cleaning, minor repairs, and safety checks.
  • Notifies vendor when major repairs are needed on equipment.
  • Stocks supplies and equipment as needed.
Qualifications:
Education/Training
Must meet one of the following:
  • High school diploma or GED required and the completion of an AMA approved technical training program (e.g., neurodiagnostics or intraoperative neuromonitoring),
  • Bachelor’s degree in physical science, life science, or clinical health profession from an accredited institution.

Licensure/Certification

Must take and successfully pass the Certification in Neurologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) by the American Board of Registration of Electoencephalographic exam within 12 months of hire. Failure to complete the certification on or before the expiration date will result in the incumbent being removed from his/her current position and having to apply for positions in which he/she may qualify. There is no guarantee of job placement as a result of not successfully completing the certification.
