This position may be filled at the Maintenance Mechanic 1 level or as a Maintenance Mechanic 1 in-training at the Senior Park Aide level depending on qualifications. Candidates hired at the Senior Park Aide level will be required to successfully complete an in-training program prior to promoting to the goal class of Maintenance Mechanic 1.

Duties

Under the supervision by the Area Manger or Construction & Maintenance Project Supervisor, this position will be assisting and contributing towards all aspects of park maintenance of the Deception Pass Park Area. This position installs, repairs, inspects, and maintains physical facilities such as buildings, facilities, and grounds, and maintains and repairs machinery and equipment.

Duties include but are not limited to:


  • Complete general maintenance procedures, repairs, remodels, and alterations of area parks facilities, grounds, vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain and repair irrigation, plumbing, and sewage systems to include providing minor electoral repairs.
  • Coordinate with management, employees, volunteers, and correctional crews during maintenance and repair projects.
  • Maintain health and safety standards.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Senior Park Aide: $3,096 - $3,734 a month


  • Twelve (12) months of experience in building maintenance or grounds keeping, or performing semi-skilled/general carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing repair work.
OR
  • Six (6) months cumulative experience as a Park Aide (or equivalent).
OR
  • Twelve (12) months experience in a special employment program (Washington Conservation Corps) with a park's agency. A combination of experience (WCC and Park Aide) may be used provided candidate has at least three months experience as a Park Aide (or equivalent).
AND
  • A valid unrestricted driver's license (other than corrective lenses).
  • At least 18 years old.

Maintenance Mechanic 1: $4,117 - $4,777 a month
  • Two (2) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
AND
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A valid unrestricted driver's license (other than corrective lenses).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working for Washington State Parks or a similar parks and recreation entity.
  • Experience driving and operating a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience and basic knowledge working with various hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience using Microsoft Office products such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experience leading/supervising lower-level staff.

UNIFORM INFORMATION

Maintenance Mechanic 1:

All Maintenance Mechanic 1 employees are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Maintenance Mechanic and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee. All Maintenance Mechanic 1s will receive 6 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after the first year), 1 jacket every 3 years, 1 baseball cap every year, 1 safety vest every 3 years, and a clothing stipend of $200 per year, and a $250 boot stipend every 2 years. Uniform stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.
