Based in Northeastern Kansas, our in-house welders, fabricators, assemblers, mechanical and electrical engineers, control panel technicians, product development teams, training and installation crews, and national sales force allow USC to stand alone in the seed treating industry..
The basic function of USC’s Mechanical Draftsman is the design, implementation and support of USC manufactured equipment and primary developer & coordinator of Technical Documents. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager. Job Requirements
▪ Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree in another discipline with relevant experience in equipment design or solid well-rounded experience in this field.
▪ License/Certification: Required: Valid Driver’s License ▪ Experience: Two to five years experience in a similar position is required. Must have proven experience in the following: mechanical design, product testing & ERP system functions. Any previous experience working with seed/grain handling and/or an OEM in a similar setting would be a plus.
▪ Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Must be detail oriented, capable of multi-tasking in a high intensity environment, have strong English composition skills and have excellent computer skills. Experience with Solid Edge and/or SolidWorks required, along with experience in Microsoft Publisher or other writing software. Must be self-motivated and team oriented, and able to readily maneuver through conflicts. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
▪ Physical: Must have a full range of body movements including use of hands. Able to lift 10 lbs. The senses of sight, speech (English) and hearing are required. Vision abilities must be sufficient to shift in focus from computer screens to printed forms.
Duties and Responsibilities
▪ Mechanical Engineering Draftsman:
o Provide pre-sales CAD & quoting support as assigned which include the following tasks:
▪ Responsible for customer site design layouts.
▪ Dimensionally layout of equipment, building, and concrete specifications on new and existing customer sites. General templates are provided for most situations.
▪ Understanding the equipment needed at particular sites.
o Adhere to all USC processes and standards.
o Time reporting on assigned tasks & projects.
o Adhere to all USC safety policies.
o Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Mechanical Engineering & Service Manager.
o Coordinate with Electrical Engineering for electrical needs on assigned projects (pre wiring components, control panels, etc.).
▪ Technical Writer:
o Responsible for creation of technical document content and assembly of completed technical document including the following tasks:
▪ Layout and design new equipment manuals
▪ Research necessary information from multiple sources

▪ Manage Library of Manuals
▪ Update existing manuals with product changes, this includes tracking of ECN’s to identify needed updates. Updates will be made as directed by the Mechanical Engineering & Service Manager.
▪ Work closely with Engineering & Service to ensure accuracy of manuals.
▪ Work with Engineering and Production to insure proper distribution of manuals.
▪ Responsible for grammatical accuracy within manuals.
▪ Develop and maintain product quick reference sheets
▪ Develop and maintain kit procedures
Working Conditions Work is in both a non-climate controlled, smoke free manufacturing warehouse environment and climate controlled, smoke free office environment. Hours will be as scheduled.
