Overview of Program Coordinator

The Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the management, administration, and implementation of the Student Support Services program at Purdue Northwest. In addition, the Program Coordinator will coordinate the support, resources, and network to advance the retention, persistence, and graduation of 21st Century Scholars at Purdue Northwest. TRIO Student Support Services is a federally funded program that supports first-generation, income-eligible college students on their journey to earning a bachelor's degree at Purdue University Northwest. The 21st Century Scholars program is an early-college promise program funded by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. It is designed to help ensure that every Hoosier student can afford the opportunity provided by a college education. Today, eligible students who maintain the Scholar Pledge to excellence in school and life receive a scholarship for up to four years of up to 100% tuition at PNW after they graduate from high school.

Pay:

  • $45,000 - $52,000

This position is partially grant-funded and will be recurring as funding permits.

PNW Title: Program Coordinator for TRIO Student Support Services & 21st Century Scholars

Duties and Responsibilities of Program Coordinator

  • Provide academic coaching, financial literacy and financial aid assistance, career-readiness coaching, and graduate admission advising
  • Monitor academic progress and utilize learning and strengths assessments to develop individual success plans
  • Assist the Director and Assistant Director in the evaluation and documentation of program components, including the Annual Performance Report
  • Coordinate innovative cultural opportunities for participants, including trips that expose students to new perspectives, graduate schools, and experiences
  • Identify and/or develop social and leadership opportunities for participants on campus and in the community
  • Create and/or collaborate to provide student success workshops, including but not limited to, the areas of financial literacy, skills building, and career preparation
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the end of year academic event & orientation for first-year participants
  • Schedule and conduct classroom presentations to engage TRIO eligible students and identify 21C Scholars on campus
  • Represent TRIO and 21C at university (NSO, Preview PNW, and Welcome Week) and community tabling/booth events as necessary
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student staff
  • Manage the TRIO Student Support Services Leadership Council, including end-of-semester reports to Director

Education of Program Coordinator

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred

Experience of Program Coordinator

  • Minimum two years’ experience in the areas of career development, advising, and/or student development in higher education, secondary education, or non-profits working with young adults
  • Preference for candidates who have worked with individuals who are first-generation college, low-income, or students with disabilities

Core Competencies of Program Coordinator

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of individuals who are traditionally underrepresented in post-secondary education and knowledge of issues affecting their college retention and success. Knowledge of academic support services, financial aid/literacy, and/or career coaching
  • Ability to foster a sense of belonging among students through programming, mentoring, and academic coaching
  • Ability to coordinate a mentoring program
  • Experience with data collection, management, and report generation
  • Ability to monitor and relate state and federal financial aid guidelines
  • Ability to display strong decision-making and excellent organization skills
  • High initiative, creative and ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Able to collaborate effectively within the department and with campus stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google, Outlook, and video conferencing software
