Overall Position Summary and Objectives
The purpose of this position is to support research inside the laboratory including performing and presenting statistical analyses
Deliverables:
- Meet with lab members to present updates - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to performing and presenting statistical analyses and data visualization using statistical software packages in collaboration with PI, staff, and outside collaborators of the IU. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to working with team on data analysis and data coordination on various large datasets. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to working with staff on research coordination of projects within the IU and with outside collaborators and institutions. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to working with PI and staff on the design of experiments, routine progress reports, and manuscript preparation; presenting analysis results and data visualization at laboratory meetings. - Ad-hoc
Work Details:
- Provides technical experience needed to assist in analyzing scientific and technical research projects.
- Perform and present statistical analyses (e.g., cross-sectional, longitudinal, and survival analyses) and data visualization (publication quality) using statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS, or Stata) in collaboration with PI, staff, and outside collaborators of the Immunoepidemiology Unit (IU). 1
- Collaborate with staff on scientific and technical research needs and requirements relating to program planning, analysis, communications and reporting functions.
- Work with staff to analyze scientific, technical, programmatic and administrative data to identify trends and accomplishments and to make budgetary and programmatic projections.
- Develop analytical documents that synthesizes and presents results of data analyses and draws inferences, outlines options, and makes recommendations that bear on program activities and policies
- Produce scientific, technical and operational graphics for use in internal and external communications, web.
- Provide scientific and technical reviews, editing and writing in support of the Institute's communication efforts seeking to publicize research advances, recruit patients to clinical trials and recruit high quality staff and trainees.
- Collaborate with staff on the planning, coordination and implementation activities for assigned research programs and the management and evaluation of grant and research applications.
- Work with staff on various grant-related administrative activities, including researching and preparing funding plans, evaluating progress reports for funded projects and gathering necessary supporting documentation from applicants or grantees.
- Provide both technical recommendations on software usage and scientific advice about methods including data processing, heavy-atom searching, phasing, model building, and refinement.
- Identify data gaps and inconsistencies and analyze data to identify reasons for differences and recommend solutions.
- Prepares various reports and presentations detailing analyses of data.
- Provide recommendations for electronic databases, analytical tools and statistical applications necessary to conduct complex scientific, technical and programmatic analyses.
- Produce publication quality, informative graphical representations of images from research studies.
- Contribute to data quality control and analyze Annual Report System (ARS) data to develop reports and presentations.
- Collaborate with staff on the preparation of narratives for inclusion in the budget.
- Develop reports and provide material to justify the results of evaluating programs and program operations.
- Participate on publications team on the development and production of annual and quadrennial news publications.
- Work with staff research and develop Program Announcements, Requests for Applications and Requests for Proposals.
- Work with staff on researching and drafting technical reports, analyzing data from the studies and publishing research findings.
- Performs basic research of various forms of scientific and technical literature and prepares summaries and in-depth reviews.
- Collaborate with project leaders and staff on data analysis and data management on various large datasets. 2
- Present analysis results and data visualization at laboratory meetings.
- Research, develop, review and revise a variety of documents and reports related to Institute initiatives, programs and research.
- Create executive summaries, budget estimates, flow sheets, flip files, summary matrices and talking points.
- Research both computerized and non-computerized medical and public health literature in major national and international databases and academic journals.
- Draft and circulate approval memos and track and incorporate suggested edits to initiatives and work with staff to meet timelines for publication.
- Work with staff on researching and preparing scientific and technical briefings, presentations and other reports in response to various requests.
- Work with Scientific Review Officers on the initial scientific and administrative review of program project grant and training grant applications.
- Research and perform quality control programs using selected statistical methods for use in quality control analysis.
- Coordinates with staff in order to communicate research progress and results.
- Provide statistical support and informal statistical training for postdoctoral, post-baccalaureate, and summer fellows. 3
- Work with project leaders and staff to maintain databases.
- Work with staff to coordinate and develop responses to requests for information about the Institute's research activities.
- Work with staff on responding to requests for information on the Institute's clinical trial portfolio and special requests. regarding annual intramural management survey and related requests.
- Develop presentations for use by senior leadership to convey program accomplishments and key facts for use for both internal and external audiences.
- Collaborate with staff on the planning and coordination of visits and tours by distinguished scientists and stakeholders, including Congressional Representatives and visitors from foreign governments.
- Collaborate with staff on the planning of the annual PI retreat and other scientific meetings and symposia.
- Contribute to overall communication strategy development and implementation.
- Develop a system for tracking recurring requirements and progress toward fulfilling the requirements.
- Work with staff in preparing written reports pertaining to research progress and performance, or to operational, financial or other issues.
- Recommend changes and improvements in research processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with PIs and staff on manuscript and grant preparation, study design, and preparation of progress reports (as an active co-author).
- Research and draft recommendations to improve scientific, technical and operational processes and workflows.
- Research and draft recommendations to improvise specific scientific and technical research methodologies based on academic best practices.
- Collect and evaluate researcher and staff inputs and ideas to improve operations and processes and prepare recommendations for upper management review.
- Design and present variety of standardized scientific, technical, operational and performance summaries, reports and dashboards.

- Doctorate degree in an epidemiology-related field.
- Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
- Five (5) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
