Title: Safety Specialist / Lead
Location: Eden, NC (On-Site)
Duration: 18 Months (Only for W2)

Job Description:

  • For more than 100 years, Client has led the charge in revolutionizing pet food production and its ability to enrich the lives of pets everywhere. Such industry leadership requires constant innovation and renovation, which is so often rooted in engineering.
  • The Operations and Start-Up Leader will play a key role in supporting capital projects and initiatives to meet business, schedule, and budget objectives. This position supports the End-to-End Manager and will focus on the operational side of these projects and assist the Safety and Health Manager with the implementation of policies and programs necessary to fully comply with Client “Safety” Programs and Loss Control objectives.
  • A key aspect of this role will be consistent collaboration with both internal and external partners including but not limited to Client Engineering, Product Technology Center (PTC), Technical Applications Group (TAG), Quality Assurance (QA), Safety Health and Environment (SHE), Human Resources, Product Supply, Digital Manufacturing, Factory Operations, Leadership, and Vendors.
  • The Operations Start-Up Leader work with stakeholders from all business units to analyze, define and document all necessary changes as well as to translate new requirements into training-related materials and documentation for factory users. As the subject matter expert on operational processes, the Operational Start-Up Leader will be expected to act as an effective coach for associates and ensure all safety programs are in place at the factory and are in compliance with Regulatory, Client, and ISO and OSHA guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead identification of operational requirements and Safety success criteria development
  • Support training programs associated with safety and health including “train the trainer” sessions to build associate capabilities.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities in relation to business processes and systems as well as support change management strategies when changes are needed
  • Collaborate with the operational team to ensure product, equipment, line readiness and safety (Machine Risk Assessments, Site Acceptance Testing, QA/Food Safety Planning)
  • Ensure the achievement of business objectives i.e., line performance, safety measures and product qualification.
  • Responsible for ensuring Safety deliverables are completed for the project and new equipment, including factory safety maps, LOTO verification, signage, and evacuation maps.
  • Responsible for implementing systems, procedures, and work practices to ensure “audit ready” state of compliance. Develop and implement processes and procedures (SOP's) to ensure Site compliance with company and regulatory agency policies, including federal, state and local legislation and regulations pertaining to Safety and Health.
  • Routinely walk the Capital Projects, Contractor work sites, and maintenance being performed to ensure safety compliance per OSHA regulations. Evaluate compliance with PPE requirements, check on contractor training and review safety paperwork (hot work permits, confined space permits, daily checklists, etc.). Act as Safety Liaison to Engineering and Maintenance to track and follow up on completion of New Equipment Checklists and support the site Safety Initiatives associated with contractors (Pre-qualification, BBS, Toolbox Talks, Meetings, etc.)
  • Provides Safety and Health functional and technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function. Partners with other key functions on initiatives including Engineering, HR, Quality, Operations, NCE, etc. to deliver on goals and plans.
  • Supports the effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment and risk prediction processes to ensure effective identification, communication and mitigation of workplace hazards. Ensures investigation of all work related incidents utilizing NCE tools to drive to root cause and identification of actions to prevent recurrence. Ensures all actions to prevent recurrence are effectively implemented. Ensures safety inspections and observations are conducted and make recommendation for safety improvements throughout the plant.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years change management, business analysis and project management experience in a manufacturing, industrial, military, or related environment

OR

  • Associate’s degree with 5+ years of project management, change management, and/or business analysis experience in a manufacturing, industrial and/or military environment
  • Preferred: 1+ years’ experience in early management, operations, and/or a startup environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP or equivalent Project Management Professional certification. The ideal candidate is a Safety Specialist, Manager, Lead that currently works in a food & beverage (or CPG) manufacturing facility.

Job Type: Contract

Salary: Up to $35.00 per hour
