School Nurse (Southern Maryland Campus)
Job description
This nurse will work at the Southern Maryland school caring for children 6 years old- 21 years old with a wide range of diagnoses.
This position is full-time working Monday through Friday from 7:45am - 3:45pm during the school year
and Monday through Thursday from 7:45am - 3:15am during summer school.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains a cumulative health record on each student.
- Implements the nursing process to develop individualized health care plans, emergency action plans, and bus plans as needed for students with special health concerns.
- Administers medications in accordance with the Institute’s School Medication Administration Policy.
- Utilizes principles of safety and infection control.
- Administers first aid and treats illnesses in accordance with the standards of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
- Assures that all students are in compliance with the Maryland state law for immunizations.
- Maintains and organizes medical equipment and supplies for the school health suite.
- Assists and/or provides annual hearing and vision screenings in accordance with State law requirements for local jurisdiction.
- Monitors height, weight, pulse, and blood pressure of designated students.
- Serves as a liaison between family, school personnel, and health care providers.
- Participates in pre-admission and ATM review for students with identified health needs.
- Provides staff with updated information on health issues through in-services or relevant journal articles.
- Valid license as a registered nurse in the State of Maryland.
- Must maintain licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or a Compact State.
- Must have current CPR certification.
- Must successfully complete PCM Training course within 12 months of hire.
- Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by the Institute.
- Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.
EDUCATION:
- Associate degree in Nursing (AA) required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of two years of clinical and/or pediatric experience required.
- Minimum of one year of school health experience required.
