Job description
The purpose of the class is to perform accounting functions and financial management reporting in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for assigned area of responsibility. The class is responsible for preparation, disbursement, maintenance, review, interpretation, analysis and reconciliation of general ledger, budgets, payroll, financial records, bank accounts, assigned funds, audits and finance-related projects and documents. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Reconciles capital expenditures, bank accounts, and general ledger balances to include cash and fixed assets.
- Assists in preparation of annual financial statements.
- Assists with the development of revenue and expenditure projections and identify significant variances.
- Prepares and analyzes financial reports to identify potential problems and significant trends to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and/or policies.
- Assist with the development of fiscal budget activities of divisions throughout the agency.
- Writes policy and procedure for assigned area of responsibility and interprets same for personnel.
- Assists Finance personnel in preparing and/or training for various tasks such as data entry and reconciliation of accounts.
- Process and maintain awarded state forfeitures to include tracking Evidence deposits, payment requests and forfeiture donations.
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports such as sales tax Equitable Sharing Agreement and Certification Form (ESAC) and Public Depositor Report.
- May act as administrator and/or trainer for the agency's internal accounting system(s), software upgrades, web-based programs and online banking.
- Performs other duties as required when assigned.
- Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university.
- Two years of relevant work experience in government and/or accounting industry at a senior level
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (specific proficiency in Microsoft Excel).
- Strong work ethics with an attention to detail
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Preference will be given to those candidates with Governmental Accounting Experience
- Friendly, courteous, professional, and customer-service oriented.
Work is performed in an office environment; work is completed during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm); fluctuations in work hours, if any, are minimal. Opportunity to work four/10 hour days.
During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities. This determination is subject to change based on staffing and the operational needs of the agency.Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks. submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.
