Responsible for the formulation of inkjet ink fluids and coatings for high-speed digital inkjet printing; design of test methods and experimental designs; collection and interpretation experimental data; support in the integration of inkjet printhead technology with chemical/material formulations; and final testing to ensure reliable and world-class product delivery. This position will work in conjunction with engineers who design and fabricate various proprietary mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic, and chemical & physical processes for use within an engineering or manufacturing facility for digital inkjet printing. Job Description
Formulation of aqueous & eco-solvent pigment-based and/or dye-based inkjet inks and related coatings and fluids for thermal, piezoelectric, and continuous inkjet technology.
Specification and selection of pigments, dyes, co-solvents, polymeric and other fluid-based materials for use in digital inkjet printing.
Designs experiments and testing procedures to understand and optimize chemical formulations and materials developed for use in high-speed digital printing operations.
Uses test results to determine critical to performance parameters and properties.
Works closely and cross-functionally with other engineers, scientists, technicians and manufacturing personnel to produce end product.
Performs work that is technically advanced. Responsible for solving highly technical or complex problems on a regular basis.
Initiates own assignments; provides direction and input to subsystem and system-wide designs.
Maintains formulation, testing, regulatory & safety documentation for materials used in conjunction with inkjet ink formulations and printing processes.
Compliance with all safety regulations and safe operating practices in laboratory and pilot plant testing areas.
Coordination with corporate Regulatory and EH&S functions on required documentation and compliance standards for indirect food contact printing and coatings.
May include onsite travel to business unit facilities at project deployment phase or after installation. Qualifications
Minimum bachelor’s degree (B.S., B.Ch.E.) in chemical, chemical engineering, or other material engineering discipline related to positional requirements Required
7-10+ years of relevant work experience preferred.
Successful previous experience in the formulation and commercialization of inkjet inks, fluids and coatings. Experience in the commercial scale-up and quality verification of ink and fluids is expected.
Must have extensive knowledge of fundamental chemical processes underlying various types of digital printing, and a demonstrated ability to outline experimental methods to determine underlying chemical and physical interactions occurring in complex inkjet systems under development.
Strong skills and experience using data-based software collection, basic statistical experimental methods and data collection, and demonstrated ability in interpreting datasets and experimental results.
Requires excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively communicate and multi-task.
Advanced experience in Designed Experimental (DOE) procedures and statistical methods desirable.
