Department Summary:
Staff Engineer - Wireless sought by DISH Wireless, LLC in Bothell, WA.

Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) support with RU and RAN/vRAN/ORAN technologies. Lead the development of operational and assurance standards ensuring radio access networks meet or exceed design specifications. Analyze service and system issues, determine root-cause for failure and develop corrective actions. Contribute to on-going process improvement reviews using Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics to eliminate errors, maximize hardware/software efficiencies and increase service up-time leading to an overall excellent customer experience. Participate in vendor engineering reviews of hardware/software development in lab Proof of Concept environments. Provide lead support with Market Teams to troubleshoot/resolve complex issues with deployed RF and RAN systems. Engage and escalate issues with vendors when critical/time sensitive support and resolution is needed. Develop key metrics for performance monitoring and service assurance. Coordinate proposed changes with Certification Lab(s) for validation. Produce updated technical specifications of system changes and provide a comprehensive plan for release. Ensure solutions meet key criteria for CI/CD, system orchestration and automation. Work with technical writers/engineers to document final process configurations and MOPs to support Field Operations. This position may provide on-call support on a rotational basis.

Job requirements:

Requires Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electronics and Communication, or a closely related field plus 8 years of experience (at least 5 years of which must be progressive post-baccalaureate experience) in the wireless industry in job offered or as ORAN Systems Engineer/RF Engineer. Also requires 8 years of work experience with/using the following (which may have been gained concurrently):

  • 5G ORAN split functions (7-2x, RU, DU, CU, CP, UP)
  • RAN/vRAN software architectures in a virtualized environment.
  • RF Radio operations over eCPRI interfaces. Includes CSR, DU and timing configurations
  • Software systems/services running virtualized ORAN functions.
  • Understanding of latency considerations and issues from gNB to Data Center locations.
  • virtualized networks, orchestration and automation across a large network architecture
  • vRAN/ORAN architecture described in 3GPP standards.

As part of the normal job function, travel is required to markets for meeting and engineering work with local DISH engineers. This would be required of any person in this role. These markets have offices in: Portland OR, Sacramento CA, San Francisco CA, San Jose CA, Fresno, CA, Bakersfield CA, Los Angeles CA, San Diego CA, Salt Lake City, UT, Boise ID, Phoenix, AZ and Albuquerque NM. Travel is approximately 25%.
