Responsibilities:
The Employee Health Nurse develops, implements, and evaluates unit specific and hospital-wide Employee Health Program. Assists with establishing the standard of practice in occupational health and safety for employees and their patients. Serves as a resource to all hospital departments, medical staff and community as it relates to preventing disease transmission in all ages (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs pre-employment and annual medical evaluations for employees and auxiliary members, both adolescent and adult.
2. Renders professional nursing care for employees and auxiliary members for occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries while on the job.
3. Evaluates findings from examinations and tests, and makes recommendations to the employee for follow-up needs.
4. Explains policies related to injuries, illnesses, and possible exposures while on the job to new employees.
5. Dispenses over-the-counter medication per department policy.
6. Counsels client population on health and work related issues.
7. Assesses the employee’s needs related to wellness.
8. Reviews employee injury and illness reports:
a. Assesses extent of injury/illness
b. Provides treatment and follow-up as necessary
c. Facilitates employees in the correct disposition of the incident
d. Interfaces with other departments to obtain and share information regarding employee status
e. Completes a detailed monthly report of injuries, exposures, and needle sticks.
f. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations.
2. Minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience as a RN post- orientation or post-residency training.
3. Certified in American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED:
1. BSN degree preferred
2. Certified as an Occupational Health Nurse (COHN)
3. Must be certified in skills applicable to Employee Health within designated time frame
4. Experience in Occupational or Public Health Nursing
Work Hours:: 7AM-3:30PM
