About this Role
The New York Times is an international brand that prints its daily newspaper in College Point, Queens for the New York Metropolitan area and the Eastern Seaboard.
We are looking for a part-time Plateroom Casual that has a passion working with coworkers in other departments and outside commercial print customers. You will coordinate and process plate products following the production schedule. You will operate plate room equipment in a union environment on a daily basis. In-depth knowledge of all plate room equipment after the training period is required. You will need to be available for night and weekend shifts to accommodate production needs.
You will report to the Deputy Plant Manager and you will work onsite at our printing facility located in Queens, New York. #LI-Onsite
Responsibilities:

Operate and maintain plate room equipment, including plate processors, hand jacks, file transmission-related systems, plate lines, and benders.

Ensure efficient, productive, and safe work environment by following all department office rules and Standard Operating Procedures

Work with team members to maintain positive and productive work relationships.

Follow production schedules and deadlines to ensure delivery of newspaper editions.

Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, stand, and walk for 8-10 hours per shift.
Basic Qualifications:

3 or more years of experience in a production or warehouse environment in the newspaper production or offset printing industry.

Coordinate with team members.
-
Ability to work well with people and adapt to changing technology.

High school diploma or equivalency.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience: Previous newspaper production or offset printing experience.

In-depth knowledge of plate room equipment and tools.

Ability to operate all equipment during the training period.
The rate of base pay for this role is $18.80 per hour.
