Job description
Panther Lake Elementary School is located in Kent at 10200 SE 216th Street. In September 2009 Panther Lake opened its brand-new building located approximately 1 mile south of our previous location. This 57,000 square foot building is considered to be among the most state of the art schools in Kent and Washington with regard to technology resources, equipment and opportunities for students, as well as for its timeless and environmentally friendly design. There is a traditional heterogeneous grouping of 500-600 children in grades K-6. The service area consists of approximately 58% single-family residents and 42% apartment dwelling residents. A strong history of community is present at Panther Lake and is enhanced by the rich diversity of our children and families where 80% of our student body represent diverse race/ethnicity groups. Panther Lake is a Kids@Hope school where we believe that all students and staff contain treasures and can be successful. Our core academic program is supported and enhanced by an Integrated Program Resource Room, an Adaptive Support Center for our most impacted Special Needs Students, a Title I Reading and Math Program, a Learning Assistance Program (LAP) for math and reading, an English Language Learner (ELL) Program, and full-day kindergarten. - Valid Washington State certification with an elementary endorsement required and must be on file prior to beginning work.
- All teachers of kindergarten students must complete WaKIDS 101 training and the inter-rater reliability assessment. Classes are offered by the PSESD June through August. Contact the building principal or the district Early Learning Director for information on registration and compensation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Major or minor in elementary education
- ELL endorsement
- Experience working with elementary school students
- Excellent technology skills and can use and incorporate computers/technology into curriculum
- Must maintain positive learning environment and have ability to relate to all students, parents, and colleagues
- Must be a team player with excellent management and communication skills
- Must be willing to share professional skills with other staff members
- Must have experience with or willingness to participate in integrated programs and/or team teaching
- Knowledge and/or training in balanced literacy, whole language/integrated curriculum, differentiated instruction, assessment tools and techniques, EALRs, constructivist mathematics, inquiry based science and social studies, cooperative learning, student learning styles, positive discipline and multicultural education
- Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community.
- Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school demographics
