Qualifications Preferred:
1. Successful experience in planning and implementing programming for students with autism, in the targeted age group within the past five years.
Provide for basic education assistance in core subject areas and prepare lessons.
2. Successful teaching experience with students with significant behavior disabilities.
3. Physical stamina as required to assist and keep pace with students with autism.
4. Demonstrated knowledge as it relates to students with autism:
- Skills and interest in teaching students of all abilities;
- Successful experience implementing positive support plans;
- Successful experience working with students with significant behavioral needs; and
- Successful experience maintaining a positive, productive, learning climate within the classroom as well as positive communication links with parents and colleagues.
6. Demonstrated knowledge as it relates to students with autism:
- Ability to apply developmentally appropriate practices;
- Ability to implement the legal requirements regarding special education, including district policy and procedures;
- Knowledge of standardized and informal assessment options and the ability to develop IEP’s with a wide variety of disabled students;
- Ability to develop curricula and instructional methods that meet special education student learning needs; and
- Willingness to support students in an inclusionary program and, at times, in a self-contained classroom as needed.

Job Description:
The successful candidate for Southridge High School will be expected to:
1. Be responsible for the educational programming of students with autism as placed by the district in the program.
2. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
3. Participate in the development of an integrated curriculum with other curricular area classes and its implementation into instruction.
4. Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEP’s) including school-to-work transition components.
5. Maintain current IEP’s and monthly student information reports as well as serving as the IEP case manager for students on their caseload.
6. Plan appropriate programs for students in conjunction with Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) members and parents.
7. Write goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth.
8. Regularly monitor the progress of students, making changes in programming if appropriate.
9. Assume responsibility for productive use of a classroom educational assistants.
10. Communicate regularly and pro-actively with students and parents regarding progress and behavior.
11. Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with others.
12. Attend and participate in faculty and team meetings.
13. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations.
14. Maintain the confidentiality of student and family information.
15. Consult with administrators, regular education teachers, community agencies, the court system and the specialists about the educational programming of students with disabilities, as appropriate.
16. Work with school and district level experts in designing a personal, social, and responsibility program to best fit the needs to the students in the program
17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
**COMPLETION OF SAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASED TRAINING IS REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**
Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.
Out-of-District applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
