Otter Valley is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and collaborative full-time High School language arts teacher to fill a vacancy in the 2023-2024 school year.Job ResponsibilitiesAll Otter Valley teachers are expected to: implement standards-aligned units of study and engaging lessonsuse content-specific pedagogical techniques to engage learnersuse assessment to inform instruction throughout the learning processcreate positive classroom cultures focused on relationships, inclusive practices, and reciprocal trustcollaborate effectively with colleagues to improve teaching methods and ensure supports are in place for all studentsSpecific responsibilities for this position include: A working knowledge of the Common Core content and recommended practices.A passion for reading literature.An enthusiasm for the craft of writing and ability to work with different rubrics for specific writing tasks.Willingness or experience in working with younger high school studentsStrong communication skills. (Teacher to student, parent, administrator, and other professionals involved in a students educational goals.) Understanding of adolescent brain strategies and a willingness to incorporate the practices in the classroom.A willingness to apply Global Best Practices in the classroom and school.A willingness to work on practices associated with a PBIS school.Collaborative spirit for a middle level team and advisory / morning meeting teamEducation, Training and Experience RequirementsPossession of or eligibility for a Vermont teaching license in English Language ArtsAbout Otter Valley Union Middle and High SchoolOtter Valley Union Middle and High School, located in Brandon, Vermont, is the middle and high school for Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union. We are located near the larger communities of Rutland and Middlebury, with easy access to year-round recreation opportunities in the Green Mountains, nearby lakes, and countless trails. Burlington is just over an hour to the north.

The area is rural, with major industries being education, tourism, light manufacturing, agriculture, and a growing arts community.Our school serves approximately 530 students in Grades 7-12 and serves students from the towns of Brandon, Goshen, Leicester, Pittsford, Sudbury, and Whiting.
