Job description
Teen Recreation Workers work with teens of all ages in a fun, fast paced environment, with the opportunity to make a difference.
- Monitors and facilitates a safe and clean environment for youth entering the Teen Center
- Works the front desk answering phones, providing information regarding the Teen Center, tracking attendance and checking equipment in and out
- Registers new members and maintains a record of each member's age, phone number, and emergency contact numbers in computer system
- Assists in coordinating recreational programs for youth such as dances, arts and craft programs, fundraisers, and field trips
- Explain the rules of the activities and instruct participants at a variety of skill levels
- Organize and set up the equipment that is used in recreational activities
- Monitors the skate park ensuring safety and compliance with rules
- Provides proper protective equipment for all activities in the teen center, ensuring safety
- Administer basic first aid if needed
- Ensures that all equipment works properly
- Performs nightly closing procedures ensuring that all facility doors are locked, alarm is activated, and that every teen is out of the building and picked up by parent or guardian
- May performs miscellaneous duties such as running errands, picking up supplies as needed for activities, decorating, and setting up tables and chairs for events
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required with previous public contact work experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Communication skills Teen recreation workers must be able to communicate well. They often work with large groups of people and need to give clear instructions, motivate participants, and maintain order and safety.
- Flexibility. Teen recreation workers must be flexible when planning activities. They must be able to adapt plans to suit changing environmental conditions and each person's needs.
- Leadership skills. Teen recreation workers should be able to lead both large and small groups. We believe in leadership at all levels.
- Problem-solving skills. Teen recreation workers need strong problem-solving skills. They must be able to create and reinvent activities and programs for all types of participants.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid state issued driver's license.
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.

This is a high traffic area therefore noise level in the work environment is noisy.
- The City of Hobbs will provide 80% to 90% Heath Insurance Coverage from Single to Family coverage.
- Employees are eligible for 100% short-term disability coverage provided by the City of Hobbs.
- Employer PERA contributions 13.8% for general, 17.775% for HPD, 29.90% for HFD.
- CDL pay - $6,000 per year.
- PTO accruals start at 12 hours per month (144 hours per year) and increase to 20 hours per month (240 hours per year) at year 21.
- Bilingual Pay - $1,500 dollars per year.
- Education Incentive - ($1,000 to $6,000 dollars - Associates thru Masters, relevant to position).
- Longevity Pay - 10 years to past 25 years.
- 11 Paid Holidays.
- Bereavement Leave - 5 days per calendar year.
- Military Leave - (120 hours per year for general, 183.75 per year for HPD, 360 hours per year for HFD).
