Summary

The Primary Therapist is responsible for providing high quality patient care, which includes demonstrating skills in assessment, treatment planning, individual and group therapy and discharge planning. Responsible for assessing, planning and delivering care for patients with eating disorders, substance abuse, mental health and other addictive behaviors and is expected to conduct topic groups and to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Establish rapport and clinical alliance, systematically complete psychosocial assessment, gather data determine patient readiness to determine proposed plan for course of treatment plan, and determine if a diagnosis of substance abuse disorder is warranted in addition to an existing eating disorder.

2. Facilitates individual and group therapy sessions with assigned groups of patients as well as co-facilitating family conjoint therapy sessions as indicated in treatment team demonstrating knowledge of eating disorders, the program philosophy and materials when appointed and the principles and techniques of group therapy.

3. Shows knowledge and understanding of individual patient and family dynamics in the early stages of treatment and collaborates with the team to direct the course of care with the client and family.

4. Is prepared to lead disclosure sessions conjointly with Family Workshop Facilitator.

5. Conducts topic groups, displaying good theoretical knowledge of subject matter and effective communication skills in delivering material.

6. Completes all documentation including psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, progress notes and discharge summary maintaining compliance with the policies and procedures of the facility.

7. Maintains appropriate and timely communication with referral sources and other significant contacts, conveying a positive professional image independently and of the company.

8. Conducts individual and couples sessions when indicated in treatment team.

9. Coordinate aftercare planning with aftercare coordinator.

10. Utilizes supervisory feedback to improve performance.

11. Participates as a team player in the treatment center milieu (i.e. active member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, works harmoniously with other staff, participates in training activities).

12. Must be willing to accept assignments between appropriate departments and/or temporary assignments to other sites.

13. Must be willing to work beyond normal work hours.

14. All required patient documentation must be completed in compliance with all state, federal, CARF, ASAM, JACHO and company policies by the end of each shift.

15. Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected.

16. Performs other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor and/or CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s degree in behavioral sciences or related field.

2. At least one (1) year professional experience in related field preferred.

3. An MFTI will not provide direct patient care without a Clinical Supervisor (who is licensed) until proof of internship registration is received.

4. Licensed through the BBS as a professional counselor, marriage and family counselor, social worker or an associate counselor working towards licensure.

5. Physical Limitations: must be able to sit for extended periods of time.

EXPERIENCE:

Prefer a min. of two years work experience in an organization providing service to populations seeking drug and alcohol and eating disorder rehabilitation or the experience that has been previously outlined under qualifications.

1. Must have sensitivity to and ability to embrace individuals of different genders, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religions, physical abilities and those with diversified cultural backgrounds.

2. Attendance in an appropriate support group is required, as directed by the direct supervisor, in order to gain a better perception of the disease they will be working with on a daily basis.

3. Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstance warrants such action and judgment to include the team, supervisor and administration at all times when possible.

4. Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family members, visitors and the general public.

5. Willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.

6. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle patients based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.

7. Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

8. Must demonstrate a variety of clinical and management skills. Ethical and Professional Behavior as stated and will demonstrate the American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines with respect to patient care.
