Description
Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs (KDVA) is located in Frankfort, Kentucky and oversees four long term care facilities for veterans, five cemeteries for veterans and benefits coordinators in all regions of the state. The Department also has several programs serving homeless veterans, women veterans and veterans seeking employment.

The Veterans Program Administrator is responsible for the development and implementation of the Women Veterans Program.

KDVA is looking for a career-minded, self- motivated and energetic Veterans Program Administrator to work in our Frankfort Office, and who possesses the skills, knowledge and desire to perform the following:
  • Character Traits: diligent, outgoing, persistent compassionate
  • Experience: public speaking, typical staff work, program development, collaboration
  • Knowledge: proficient with Microsoft suite, military life and it’s challenges
Typical duties include:
  • Perform outreach to improve women veterans’ awareness of eligibility for federal and state veterans’ services and benefits.
  • Review programs, research projects, and other initiatives designed to address or meet the needs of Kentucky’s women veterans.
  • Participate in National forums and committees for women veterans.
The ideal candidate will work independently, yet be part of a larger team to meet our commitment to serve Kentucky's Veterans.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of experience as a military officer, noncommissioned officer, benefits counselor, or professional experience in a human service program or a related field.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in social work, sociology, psychology, or a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above fields will substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement on a year-for- year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting. May require frequent travel throughout the state.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
