The recruitment will be used to fill four part-time (20 hours a week) student worker positions through (OSU-Cascades) campus in Bend, Oregon.
We seek four field assistants from 15 May to 10 July to work 3 or 4 days a week on mornings with the project lead scientist, Kurt Trzcinski. All assistants will be trained in nest monitoring, and recording data. All of the field work will occur in the Sisters Ranger District and assistants are expected to meet in Bend or Sisters. Being able to use your own vehicle is helpful and you would be reimbursed for mileage. This projected is funded by the East Cascades Audubon Society, and the funds are administered through Oregon State –Cascades.

Locate study sites using GPS. Locate birds and bird nest cavities using binoculars. Follow birds back to nest cavities. Monitor nest occupancy using a cavity peeper. Measure tree parameters (DBH, height). Record locations using GPS. Transfer data to project files.

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
- International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Experience conducting field work and research in class or outside of academia. Able to hike over difficult terrain off trails and willing to work in difficult weather conditions (rain, snow, heat).
