Geosyntec, a fast-paced and deadline-driven environmental professional services firm is seeking an enthusiastic, resourceful, and experienced Tax Manager, to support our growing U.S Federal and International practice. This position can sit in any of our Geosyntec office locations with the opportunity to be remote. This role will plan, organize, develop, perform and deliver the Company s tax-related activities in accordance with federal, state, local, and international regulations. Responsibilities include tax reporting, tax planning, tax compliance functions, active participation in strategic tax planning and tax-related month-end initiatives. Responsibility for the above includes definition of objectives, project requirements/constraints, definition of scope, organization of assignments, identification and adaption of appropriate approach, execution of work, preparation and presentation of deliverables. Advises Controller and management of corrective action to be taken. Hybrid schedule option from one of our established office locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Income Tax Compliance Responsibilities

  • Adhere to FAS 109 tax accounting provisions for the Company s legal entities, including FIN48 aspects;
  • Apportionment of income taxing authorities;
  • Prepare and review tax-related documents (i.e. tax notes received, schedule supporting amounts filed in tax returns, and tax computations) in accordance with Federal, state and foreign income tax filings in coordination with outside tax preparers;
  • Collect, analyze and prepare federal, state, and foreign tax returns and estimated tax payments and supporting financial and tax documentation;
  • Monitor and ensure the compliance of income tax filings with regulating authorities;
  • Prepare and update documentation supporting transfer pricing compliance to avoid non-compliance penalties; and
  • Coordinate Federal, state, and foreign tax audits.

State/Foreign Tax Compliance Responsibilities

  • Assist in or actually lead the preparation of various tax filings, including but not limited to, sales and use tax, unclaimed property taxes, foreign Value added, goods and services taxes and PST taxes, Malaysian service taxes, etc.;
  • Monitor state and foreign tax registrations, including business registrations, payroll tax, and tax withholding to ensure compliance with tax regulations; and
  • Prepare an annual summary of U.S. signers of foreign bank accounts (FinCEN Form 114).

Tax Planning Responsibilities

  • Monitor changes in applicable tax rates, tax laws and regulations to implement changes;
  • Facilitate and prepare company-wide tax research including tax saving strategies to maximize profits;
  • Assist the Senior Tax Manager with tax related strategic planning and related to the Company s international expansion; and
  • Maintain the Company s tax compliance calendar to ensure tax filings and other Company tax-related activities are administered and filed in a timely manner.

Other Responsibilities

  • Monitor depreciation methods and lives of property and equipment balances to ensure the assignments are in accordance with applicable tax laws;
  • Conduct tax-related due diligence on business acquisitions to realize any exposure for unpaid foreign, federal, state and local taxes;
  • Develop policies and procedures related to areas of responsibility;
  • Work cooperatively with the Accounting team, internal clients, external consultants, and personnel from taxing and other regulatory agencies;
  • Provide guidance and counsel to the Senior Tax Manager on tax-related initiatives; and
  • Perform special projects and related work as required.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor s degree from an accredited college in tax or accounting and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience or a master s degree with six (6) years of progressively responsible experience with individual, partnership and corporate tax returns. (required)
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required. The employee must maintain the minimum amount continuing education units (CEUs) in order to maintain an active license. (required)
  • Current or prior public accounting experience, in a medium or large size CPA firm. (preferred)
  • Progressively responsible experience includes performing increasingly complex and varied technical and project assignments in the field of tax and prior experience supervising staff. (required)
  • Possess strong technical knowledge of corporate tax planning and compliance, with an emphasis in income tax accounting and state and local tax apportionment, and an understanding of tax-related GAAP financial reporting requirements and compliance. Prior experience complying with legal, regulatory, and company guidelines and policies. Organizational leadership, team development, quality improvement and process and control creation experience. (required)
  • Knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements. (required)
  • Working knowledge of tax software and Microsoft Office. (required)
