AIRLINE STATION AGENT
Status: Part‐time Non‐exempt
Supervisor: Airline Manager

SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to provide superior customer service, perform ground service, and to provide ramp services to commercial aircraft and passengers, arriving and departing from Meridian Regional Airport at Key Field.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are required for this position. This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all‐inclusive and can be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities assigned and required by management that it deems applicable, indicated, or necessary at any time, with or without notice.

  • Performs a full range of customer service functions, including working at ticket counter using computers to provide customer service to incoming passengers, assisting passengers with baggage check in, ticketing, making and/or changing reservations, answering inquiries about flight schedules and fares verifying reservations by phone, figuring fares, and handling payments.
  • Performs boarding gate duties including processing and boarding passengers, making boarding announcements, checking and collecting tickets at the boarding gate, assisting handicapped passengers as they board or depart the aircraft.
  • Performs all flight and ground operations including placing safety equipment at aircraft, operating aircraft doors, loading and unloading baggage from cargo area and baggage carts and tugs, directing aircraft to and from their gate locations, answering questions and offering information on airline and airport related topics. Loads and unloads customer bags; operates ground service equipment; coordinates the servicing of arriving and departing aircraft; prepares aircraft cabins for departure; provides ramp services including waste disposal and re‐servicing of aircraft.
  • Provides excellent customer service and handles stressful situations in a courteous manner; assists customers and complies with any ad‐hoc requests as needed; exhibits exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to get along with others.
  • Anticipates needs of coworkers and passengers in a fast‐paced environment and works at a constant and quick pace for up to two hours at one time.
  • Learns quickly and understands and interprets flight schedules and airline flight destination information.
  • Conducts various errands as needed, such as picking up or delivering passengers, supplies, and materials.
  • Performs duties while working under time constraints and in the outdoors under various weather‐related and noise conditions.
  • Provides assistance to other employees as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

PERFORMANCE APTITUDES AND REQUIREMENTS
Physical Presence: The presence of the employee or collaboration of the employee in person is required.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to coordinate, manage, and/or correlate data. Includes exercising judgment in determining time, place and/or sequence of operations, referencing data analyses to determine necessity for revision of organizational components, and in the formulation of operational strategy.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to function in a managerial capacity for a division or organizational unit. Includes the ability to make decisions on procedural and technical levels.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to solve algebraic problems and perform statistical analysis; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount, interest, profit and loss, ratio, and proportion; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or synthesis functions; to deal with several concrete and abstract variables; and to analyze major problems that require complex planning for interrelated activities that can span one or several work units.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in critical and/or unexpected situations involving moderate risk to the organization.

Physical Requirements: Stand/walk for most of the work shift. Perform repetitive job duties that require constant attention to operating process. Periodically push/pull containers weighing up to 50 pounds and lift containers up to 50 pounds. Climb to heights of up to 15 feet using a ladder while carrying weight of up to 40 lbs. Adjust to distractions and interruptions and handle multiple priorities simultaneously and safely.

Environment: Constant exposure to noise levels loud enough to require employees wear hearing protection. Extreme outdoors weather and temperature levels, fumes, vibration, etc., sufficient to cause minor discomfort, oily/wet conditions. Employees to wear protective eye wear, uniforms, steel‐toed shoes, and gloves.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; plus, experience working with the public and some knowledge of in person and telephone business etiquette; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Candidates and employees must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age, fluently speak and read the English language, be authorized to legally work in the United States of America, and possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
