Cell and molecular neurobiological studies of Alzheimer's Disease and related neurodegenerative diseases. The Nixon Lab, led by Dr. Ralph Nixon, seeks a highly motivated candidate with a Ph.D. degree in biological or chemical sciences for a full-time position exploring disease mechanisms in cell and mouse models of Alzheimer's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. Our research focuses on fundamental and disease-related regulation of the endosomal-lysosomal pathway and autophagy. We have developed innovative approaches and models to understand how these pathways function in healthy and diseased neurons and conduct drug target and therapy validation studies. Unique research opportunities are available that combine molecular, cell biological, morphologic, and biochemical approaches in a multidisciplinary setting at an internationally recognized research center. There are ample opportunities for scientific growth, career enhancement and development into an independent investigator in academia.

JOB DUTIES:

Exploring disease mechanisms in cell and mouse models of Alzheimer's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. in biological or chemical sciences. The candidate should have demonstrated detailed experience in conducting cell and molecular research. Experience with in vivo analysis in mouse models or bioinformatics is desirable.

Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements:

Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment. 2) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
