Job description
The Bluff Community Garden, housed at the St. Christopher’s Episcopal Mission in Bluff, UT, is equipped to provide fresh produce to Bluff residents within and surrounding city limits (estimated to 800 people) who regularly travel 20-100 miles to purchase fresh produce. These communities are considered “food deserts” and encompass some of the poorest households in Utah. The garden is intended to relieve the lack of access to fresh produce.
Member Duties : The VISTA project goals include the development of a volunteer recruitment and retention program associated with the Community Garden activities. The VISTA will also develop a produce sale and donation program and evaluate materials for the program. This will entail coordinating volunteer recruitment, activities, and organizational forms with garden participants and the farm manager to produce fresh foods for local community. The VISTA will work closely with the Utah State University Monticello extension team to develop a community garden manual, evaluate program impacts, and secure additional funding for years 2023-2026. Join us as we help restore ancestral teachings and heritage seeds to ensure marginalized communities on the Navajo Nation thrive in the desert again with fresh produce.
