Job Summary:
Markel Specialty Data & Analytics is a hub for data innovation at Markel. We offer fun work environment that promotes innovative thinking and opportunities for career growth. The Business Analyst role serves as a vital link between our data capabilities and Markel’s underwriting objectives. This position will be responsible for engaging in tactical discussions with our business partners around our analytics and business intelligence initiatives. Collecting and documenting requirements, facilitating user acceptance testing, and training will be the Business Analyst’s main focus in this role.

We are looking for some with good interpersonal skills who can serve as an intermediary between our technical development teams and our internal business partners. Communication and transparency with customers are of utmost importance to our team. Consequently, we are looking for hyper-organized candidates who have experience designing and executing on communication plans. Strong presentation skills are desirable in potential candidates to lead trainings and demonstrations of our data solutions.
  • Maintain a strong working understanding of Markel Specialty’s data & analytics solutions to effectively communicate features and capabilities.
  • Lead tactical discussions in the project planning process of requirements gathering and documentation.
  • Support change management activities, such as: Training (e.g., training plans and materials, training sessions), Documentation support (e.g., operational procedures, troubleshooting guides), Customer support;
  • Assist in analysis of business proposals;
  • Design reporting and analytics use cases;
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommendations;
  • Manage and monitor intake processes;
  • Research and develop functional design documents and align with technical design documents;
  • Performs procedural duties such as access management of data solutions;
  • Support production activities such as functionality testing and acceptance criteria.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of proven experience as a business analyst;
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office and Azure DevOps;
  • Foundational knowledge of insurance industry or a related financial services industry;
  • SQL or other query language familiarity.

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors.
