Position Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Health Sciences (DAHS) is a department in the UNC School of Medicine, part of the Health Affairs division of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Chair of DHS also serves as an Associate Dean of the Medical School. Each of the seven divisions in this department has a Division Director with administrative responsibility for all aspects of that division’s operation. In addition to the Chair/Associate Dean, the department’s administration includes an Associate Chair for Research, Associate Chair for Student Services, Development Director, and Director for Communications, Associate Chair for Academics, and Associate Chair for Administration. The DAHS includes seven professional divisions: Clinical Laboratory Sciences; Occupational Therapy and Occupational Sciences; Physical Therapy; Radiologic Sciences; Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling; Physician’s Assistant Program, and Speech and Hearing Sciences.

Position Summary
This position administers and manages the financial, accounting, and post-award for the Department of Health Sciences. These duties encompass accounting, reconciling, and budgeting, Grad Star Award and GSHIP Insurance administration and auditing functions. The specific fund types include state appropriations, overhead receipts, contracts, subcontracts, grants, trust funds and endowment funds. The position is responsible for analyzing data for accuracy, problem-solving, and interpreting regulations. This position administers and manages the financial, accounting, and post-award for the Department of Health Sciences in the School of Medicine. These duties encompass accounting, budgeting, scholarships administration and auditing functions. The specific fund types include state appropriations, overhead receipts, contracts, subcontracts, grants, trust funds and endowment funds. The position is responsible for analyzing data for accuracy, problem-solving, and interpreting regulations. This position serves the lead position for the Health Sciences Finance and Business Office including training of new employees and reconciling accounts. The position works closely with the department’s Associate Chair for Administration and Division Directors to analyze spending patterns and needs including making financial suggestions to enhance researcher’s portfolios.

This position serves as pcard coordinator, CBM coordinator, Asset and Lab Manager supporting 7 academic /teaching laboratories and 2 on-campus research labs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Entry-level with Masters; or Bachelors and 0-2 yrs experience

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The successful candidate must have experience understanding and applying accounting principles and practices; must be able to verify and ensure accuracy and validity of complex financial transactions, examine accounting records to assure adherence to accounting standards and regulations, maintain and manage accounting records. Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Possess intermediate level knowledge in Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively, and work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
A thorough working knowledge of University policies and procedures, and an understanding of the UNC-Chapel Hill financial and administrative systems including Connect Carolina, Gradstar, GSHIP, and Concur are all highly preferred.
