The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Service Center Director – Martinsville.

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Danville’s Corps Officer, the Service Center Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the Martinsville Service Center operations to include social services. He/she will assist with the selection, training and supervision of all staff and volunteers responsible for performing the daily operational duties of the Service Center. The incumbent will plan, develop, implement and evaluate a variety of social service strategies to ensure the highest level of quality service and care to the clients served by the service center. Under the direction of and in coordination with the Danville Corps Officers, he/she is responsible for leading efforts to identify/secure public and government funding in support of the service center’s mission and goals; provides leadership and oversight to the Advisory Council; maintains a direct advisory relationship with the Danville Corps Officers regarding overall service goals and objectives; tracks, records and reports all statistical data timely, accurately, proactively promotes publicity through all media avenues and coordinates and manages all seasonal fundraising and service delivery efforts (Angel Tree, Red Kettle Campaign, etc.) throughout the year.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of administering and managing basic service delivery-related programs and services. Knowledge of Salvation Army programs. Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel supervision. Knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping and basic accounting. Knowledge of effective methods and procedures for budget preparation. Ability to supervise, lead, and motivate employees and to monitor work ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures as well as contract/licensure requirements. Ability to prepare financial and statistical reports in an accurate and timely manner. Experience in public speaking. Experience in leading and teaching Bible Study groups. Exceedingly capable of working and excelling in a PC-based environment - 100% computer literate with demonstrative experience working with Excel, Word, Access, Publisher, Power Point, and other common business software applications. Demonstrative familiarity with generally accepted practices and techniques related to human resource management, public and interpersonal relations and business communication, both oral and written. Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple projects/tasks concurrently and consistently. Ability to work effectively and compassionately with adults and children. Ability to represent The Salvation Army to the public in a professional, well-informed manner. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Relations, Christian Ministries or related field and three (3) years experience in a related field
or
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge and skills

Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Driver’s License

Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and effectively communicate the English language. Ability to keypunch information into a computer with relative ease and consistency. Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including a telephone, PC, FAX machine, postage machine, etc. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to clients/others requiring assistance. Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines (both well-established and sudden). Ability to follow instructions and work independently with limited supervision. Ability to lift, carry and move objects such as boxes of canned food, kettle equipment, etc. Administrative work is typically performed sitting at a desk. There may be periods of intermittent sitting, standing, or stooping.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed intermittently in an ordinary office environment, stockroom and warehouse facilities. Work may be performed in adverse weather conditions including inclement weather conditions of rain, sleet, snow; extreme heat and cold conditions.
