Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Orientation Programs, the Coordinator provides support in the design and implementation of comprehensive year-long in-person and online orientation and transition programs for freshman and new transfer students and their families.
This position is responsible for organizing and managing the recruitment, selection, scheduling, and evaluation of undergraduate and graduate students, referred to as orientation leaders and graduate coordinators, respectively. The Coordinator is responsible for strengthening the knowledge and skills of the orientation leaders in peer-mentorship, leadership development, and students and families throughout the onboarding process.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in planning, implementation and evaluation of Orientation Programs.
  • Recruits, trains, develops and supervises large groups of undergraduate and graduate student orientation leaders.
  • Assists in developing and implementing a cohesive and comprehensive array of first-year transitional experiences and initiatives with campus partners.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of major University events targeted to first- year students and families including freshmen convocation, homecoming, and parents and family weekend.
  • Serves as the liaison to Student Communications on the messages delivered through email to students and the Campus ESP (Engaging Parents Increasing Enrollment) online platform for ongoing parent communications.
  • Assists in the development of an overall communication/integrated marketing plan and produces all publications for Orientation and first-year transition programs activities.
  • Provides training and serves as a liaison/resource for faculty and staff serving incoming students.
  • Assesses the needs of new first-year students and parents, and incorporates findings into program and service delivery models; evaluates the efficacy of all programs.
  • Maintains integrity and appropriate confidentiality in program operations.
  • Represents the department at University programs and events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in higher education student transition programs, student development, student activities programming or related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to cooperatively work with students, faculty, alumni, and other members of the campus community.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
PREFERRED:
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience in planning and developing large scale conferences and programs.
  • Experience training, evaluating, hiring and supervising college students.
